Ghislaine Maxwell was today sentenced to 20 years in prison for her crimes and will spend at least part of her sentence in New York's infamous Metropolitan Detention Centre alongside murderers and rapists.
The disgraced paedophile enabler, 60, has been incarcerated in the Brooklyn facility since she was found guilty last year and was said to be on 'suicide watch' prior to her sentencing.
At her sentencing today (June 28), upon receiving her judgement for the crimes she committed under dead sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Maxwell's lawyers made a last-ditch attempt to have her rehomed to the BOP woman’s facility in Danbury, Connecticut.

And although Judge Alison Nathan agreed to make a recommendation, it is likely that Maxwell's immediate future lies in a facility once described as the 'most troubled' in America which one judge lambasted as having 'third-world' living conditions for inmates.
The multi-sex facility in New York has a fearsome reputation and is currently home to 1,712 prisoners convicted of shocking crimes including paedophilia, rape, murder and terrorism.
Over the years, the prison has played host to a number of famous US rogues and its current inmates include paedophile rapper R. Kelly and Frank James who has been charged with shooting commuters on the New York Subway this year.
Speaking to the Sun in 2020, former warden Cameron Lindsay laid bare some of the problems inherent in the facility which he warned had a "unique history of staff misconduct."
He also warned that fellow inmates would likely see attacking Maxwell as a" badge of honour."
The prison has been at the centre of numerous scandals over the years.
In 2007, 11 former guards were charged with bloodily beating inmates in the prison while in 2018, three guards were convicted of sexually abusing female inmates.

Since being incarcerated in the facility last year, Maxwell's lawyers have claimed that she has experienced "conditions far more onerous and punitive than any experienced by a typical pretrial detainee" and had even received "death threats."
Just last weekend, Maxwell was placed on suicide watch after guards raised concerns she was at "heightened risk of self-harm."
However, Maxwell reportedly refused to answer questions from psychology staff about why she feared for her safety but told staff she was not suicidal.
