THREE rockets were fired at the United States embassy in Baghdad today, security sources say.
One of the three weapons landed within the Green Zone, however the others fell in residential neighborhoods nearby.
It comes just one day after eight Katyusha rockets landed in the Green Zone.
A statement from the Iraqi military said an "outlaw group" launched the rockets.
Two Iraqi security officials – who remain anonymous – revealed one of the three rockets fell within the perimeters of the vast U.S. Embassy complex.
At least one Iraqi soldier was wounded, as well as buildings and cars being damaged.
The US Embassy released a message confirming "rockets targeting the International Zone resulted in the engagement of Embassy defensive systems."
"There was some minor damage on the Embassy compound but no injuries or casualties," it explained.
The attack was the third of its kind this week on Western installations across Baghdad.
Last Tuesday, a US-led coalition contractor was killed and other civilians were injured in a rocket attack outside Erbil international airport.
On Saturday, rockets wounded personnel working for a U.S. defense company at Balad airbase in Salahaddin province.
It comes nearly one year after two Americans and one member of the British military were killed after multiple rockets rained down on a military installation in Iraq.
Iran-backed terror group Guardians of Blood threatened more bloodshed after last week's deadly rocket assault on a U.S airbase in Iraq.
Fourteen rockets were fired at the airbase hosting US troops in Erbil – which killed one contractor and left nine others wounded.
The attack on Erbil was claimed by the little known Iran-backed group calling itself, Awliyaa al-Dam, or Guardians of Blood, Al Jazeera reported.
