Toff, 31, throttled terrified girlfriend until she nearly blacked out in drunken rage – but she stands by her 'soulmate'

A WEALTHY pianist throttled his “petrified” girlfriend in a drunken rage after smashing down her door – but she still stands by her “soulmate”.

Brute Daniel Evans, 31, left Oxford-educated violinist Alexandra Knight almost unconscious after he barged into her home in Holland Park, Kensington.

He downed more than half a gallon of cider before he began making “offensive and inappropriate” remarks to the classical musician in front of his raucous friends.

The group went to a restaurant but Ms Knight stormed out when Evans began ridiculing her.

Ms Knight told “nasty” Evans it was over when he bombarded her with angry calls on her way home.

But he turned up to the flat drunk and demanded to be let in at 11.30pm on September, 28.

Westminster Magistrates' Court was told how Evans was “silently vibrating with rage” before he choked her for 30 seconds until her vision blurred and she thought she would pass out.

The thug sobbed hysterically as the court heard how his partner still considered him her “true soulmate and partner for the rest of my life.”

'VIBRATING WITH RAGE'

Prosecutor Katie Bryan said: “He told her he was sorry and that he loved her but then she describes him as becoming aggressive again during the call.

“When he arrived at the flat she said she was scared as he was clearly angry so she put a chain on the door and barricaded the door with a wooden cabinet.

“She tried to calm him down through the door but he smashed through the door ripping off the chain.

“She described becoming petrified as she knew what it meant. He grabbed her by the throat and she describes it being very hard.”

Ms Knight called the police and they found her hysterical and crying.

She looked directly at Evans as she read an impact statement to the court.

She said: “I am horrified to find myself in this situation. Throughout the course of our relationship Daniel has been a fiercely loyal partner

“I have found a true soulmate and partner for the rest of my life.

I have found a true soulmate and partner for the rest of my life. Unfortunately Daniel suffered an episode of complete nervous collapse and from that moment onwards I have supported him as best I can.

“Unfortunately Daniel suffered an episode of complete nervous collapse and from that moment onwards I have supported him as best I can.

“I have been a consistent and loving partner during this period of extreme difficulty in his life.

“He repeatedly expressed concerns that the medication he was taking was making him violent.

“In the absence of help he frequently uses alcohol to self-medicate when drunk things can naturally be a bit more difficult to handle.

“I'm unable to concentrate for long periods of time and I cry a lot.

“I find there's a lot of pressure on me to think and feel in a certain way, being branded as everything from a victim to an enabler and everything in between.

“I've only ever wanted to help and to love Daniel and it breaks my heart that we find ourselves in this situation today.”

The pair told the court they planned to work through their problems and smiled at one another as Evans was handed a suspended sentence of eight weeks and ordered to complete rehabilitation treatment.

Gerard Pitt, defending, argued that Evans suffered a nervous breakdown after a failed business venture in Germany in 2017 left him fighting a bitter civil lawsuit.

Bench chairman Victoria Redman said: “The assault undoubtedly fell into category one and having passed the custody threshold we are going to impose a period of custody of 8 weeks.

“This will be suspended for a period of two years.”
