Top German diplomat accused of beating his husband to death then covering it up by claiming he 'had a fit and fell' | The Sun

A GERMAN diplomat has been arrested in Brazil after allegedly beating his husband to death.

Uwe Herbert Hahn, who works as a German consul in Rio de Janeiro, is accused of killing his husband of 20-years before trying to cover up the crime.

Hahn allegedly told police his Belgian husband Walter Henri Maximilien Biot had died after a combination of drinking and sleeping pills caused him to collapse and hit his head, cops said.

But the diplomat was foiled when forensics reportedly revealed Biot had actually been savagely beaten, they said.

He was discovered at the couple's Ipanema beach apartment with numerous bruises "compatible with injuries inflicted by stomping," the report revealed.

The body was also found to have "lesions compatible with an attack with a cylindrical instrument,” Officer Camila Lourenco reportedly said on social media.

“The version of events given by the consul, that the victim suffered a fall, is incompatible with the conclusions of the forensics report,” said Lourenco, of Rio de Janeiro’s 14th Precinct.

“The cadaver is screaming out the circumstances of its death,” she said.

"The circumstances of the death are evident. We realized there was a violent death from the traces of injury in different parts of the body," Lourenco told reporters.

In footage filmed in the apartment after the incident by police, Hahn was seen attempting to explain how his husband died.

According to the diplomat, Biot was drunk when he suddenly sprung to his feet, as if he was having a fit.

He then ran to the porch of their apartment, where he tripped and fell.

"I don't think he fell intentionally," he told Lourenco, who took the recording.

Hahn said he did not know why his husband ran before his alleged fall.

"No, I can't tell you that [why]. I can tell you that in the last few days, there were a few times he was panicked, nervous.

"Sometimes he was acting strange," he said.

The top consulate claimed that he thought his husband was just drunk when he fell, and did not know the extent of his injuries.

"First I thought he was drunk. So I actually took a picture of him and sent it to a friend and said, 'Walter is drunk again.'

"So I said, 'Come on, Walter, get up, you need to go to bed, you know, you can't sleep there.' And then I saw the blood."

Biot was found dead in the home the couple shared a week before his 53rd birthday.

The precinct's Instagram account shared pictures online of what appeared to be blood stains on the floor and furniture of the couple's apartment, according to the Straits Times.

Reports also suggested Hahn attempted to the scrub the scene of the crime before police arrived.

Brazilian media said Hahn would not have diplomatic immunity given the gruesome nature of the crime.
