Tributes paid to ‘sweet and caring’ girl, 11, who drowned in water park

Tributes have poured in for a young girl who died after 'getting into difficulties' at a water park.

Kyra Hill, 11, passed away at Liquid Leisure Windsor in Datchet, Berkshire as she used the inflatable assault course.

She was reported missing at 3.55pm on Saturday afternoon (August 6) and was found just after 5.10pm but died after being rushed to Wexham Park Hospital.

Kyra was said to have been Manchester United mad and was a keen footballer herself, playing for Coombe Wood School in Croydon.

The search for Kyra began when she did not return, launching both her parents and staff into a desperate bid to locate her.

Speaking to theMail Online , a 12-year-old who knew Kyra said: “Kyra was so kind. She was really smart, she was at the top of all our classes.

"She liked to make people smile, she cared about people."

A mum of one of the kids in her class added "She was such a sweet girl."

The mother of a teenager at the waterpark that day told the Mirror that her daughter had been given a safety briefing not to push strangers in or use bad language and that whistles would be blown 10 minutes before the end of the session and when it was over.

She added that for Kyra’s friends and family it was "an absolute tragedy".

In a statement, Liquid Leisure said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and all those affected by this desperately tragic and upsetting incident.

"As Thames Valley Police are in the early stages of the investigation, it would not be right for us to add a further comment, but we will continue to fully support and assist them throughout the process."

Thames Valley Police have said that the death is being treated as unexplained and that an investigation is underway.

The park is set to remain closed for the rest of the week out of respect for Kyra's family after it initially appeared Liquid Leisure would reopen today (Tuesday, August 9).

The Daily Star has approached Liquid Leisure for further comment.
