Tributes to 'excellent' dad-of-two stabbed after village 'pub row', as devastated family share photo | The Sun

HEARTBROKEN relatives paid tribute to the "excellent" dad-of two, who was stabbed in a village "pub row", as his family shared a moving photo.

Marcus Dunkerton, 40, was allegedly knifed by his mate Grant Bradley, 46, after they argued over "something stupid" at their local boozer in Charfield, Gloucs, on Friday night.

Bradley allegedly followed Marcus for half a mile from the Railway Tavern back to his home, before stabbing the dad at his front door.

Emergency crews scrambled to the scene but sadly Marcus couldn't be saved.

His family have said they are "heartbroken" by the unexpected murder and issued a statement on Marcus' death.

It read: “No words will ever be able to express the deep sadness and loss that we feel as a family.

“Marcus was a much-loved son, brother, partner, father, step-father, uncle and son-in-law who was very much loved by us all.

“He was an excellent father. We are heartbroken. He will leave a huge hole in our lives and will be greatly missed.”

The family went on to ask that people respect their privacy at what continues to be a very difficult time for them and all those who knew Marcus.

Bradley, meanwhile, has now been charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

He appeared at Bristol Magistrates Court today and has been remanded in custody until another appearance on Wednesday.

Shockwaves from the killing have shaken the rural village – especially as the violence seems to have escalated from "nowhere".

A member of staff at the Railway Tavern, where the pair had been drinking before the row, told how both men were "off their faces".

The bar worker added: “They are both very normal, likable guys but in drink they started quarrelling about something stupid, I don’t know what, and within seconds they were punching the living daylights out of one another.

"It started from nowhere."

Locals in the leafy Cotswolds village are equally stunned by the news.

One neighbour paid tribute to Marcus, saying: "He seemed friendly and pleasant.

"He had two children with his wife and they all moved in about two years ago. This seems like a lovely family.”

Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for anyone who was at the pub between 9pm and 11pm on Friday to get in touch.

They also urged anyone with information or footage which could help their investigation to come forward.

In addition, the local police confirmed they received reports of an "earlier incident" involving the two men.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker said: "Our hearts go out to Marcus’s family as they face such a devastating loss. They are being supported by specially-trained officers and have asked for privacy in their grief.

"We continue to gather evidence to help us understand what has happened.
