‘This is a scam!’ Trump rails against E Jean Carroll claiming he would never have raped ‘a near 60-year-old woman’ in Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in 1996 and says the entire case is backed by Democrat donor trying to ruin his campaign
- E Jean Carroll is suing Trump for unspecified damages over a 1996 alleged rape
- He says it’s a politically-motivated witch hunt designed to harm his campaign
Donald Trump railed against rape accuser E Jean Carroll in a series of Truth Social posts on Wednesday, calling her claims a ‘scam’ that is being backed by a Democratic megadonor.
Carroll’s case is being heard in New York City this week after years of delays. She claims Trump raped her in the dressing room of Bergdorf Goodman in 1996, and is seeking unspecified damages.
Today, she took the stand to tell the court how he ‘lied’ and ‘shattered’ her reputation.
Earlier in the day, Trump fumed that the entire case was fueled by Democratic megadonor Reid Hoffman, whose nonprofit gave money towards Carroll’s defense.

E Jean Carroll, 79, arriving at court today. She says Trump raped her in the dressing room of Bergdorf Goodman
‘The E. Jean Carroll case, Ms. Bergdorf Goodman, is a made up SCAM.
‘Her lawyer is a political operative, financed by a big political donor that they said didn’t exist, only to get caught lying about that. Just look at her CNN interview before & after the commercial break – Like a different person.
‘She said there was a dress, using the ol’ Monica Lewinsky “stuff”, then she didn’t want to produce it. The dress should be allowed to be part of the case.
‘This is a fraudulent & false story–Witch Hunt!’ he said in his first post.
In a second, he said: ‘They got caught lying! The Miss Bergdorf Goodman case is financed by a big political donor that they tried to hide.
‘Does anybody believe that I would take a then almost 60 year old woman that I didn’t know, from the front door of a very crowded department store, (with me being very well known, to put it mildly!), into a tiny dressing room, and …. her.
‘She didn’t scream? There are no witnesses? Nobody saw this? She never made a police complaint? If I was seen there with a woman-BIG PRESS.
‘SCAM!’
Carroll took the stand today for the first time.
It remains unclear if Trump will testify. He has not yet attended court.
Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn Corp is helping to fund Carroll’s lawsuit
He defended his donation in a lengthy LinkedIn post last week
On Wednesday morning before the jury was brought in, a judge warned his attorney that he should not post online about the case.
It emerged recently that in the early days of her case, Carroll’s attorneys received funding from Hoffman.
In a post on LinkedIn, the website he founded, he said he was proud of it.
‘Over the last couple of weeks, some of my philanthropy has received increased attention. If that spotlight offers the chance to reinforce the importance of the rule of law, equality, and helping the disadvantaged, I’m compelled to take that opportunity.
‘After all, these are not just my values, but American values—ones that are foundational to our democracy, our success, and our future.
‘I believe that the courts themselves, using facts and laws, should decide innocence and guilt. Trump has had many days in court; America and its citizens should have their say as well.
‘And so I have been proud to help level the playing field in the courts for those whom Trump and his allies have attacked and bullied,’ he said.
