Two people have reportedly died after a six-hour hostage stand-off in a doctor's office.

Austin Police made the announcement as the situation unfolded in a Central Austin doctor’s office on Tuesday evening, according to reports.

Authorities entered the building where the hostage situation had been ongoing for hours.

Earlier, SWAT negotiators could be heard talking to the hostage taker.

“Your life is very important to me,” a member of the SWAT team said.

He added: “And I know life is very important to you," reports EU Statesman.

A negotiator could also be heard saying: "You don’t deserve to go through this… for all you have done for others… that is why I want to help you work through this. You have saved a lot of lives."

It has been reported, though unconfirmed, there were five hostages held.

The Austin Police Department had been using a megaphone to communicate with a male inside the medical centre, identified as a doctor.

Multiple explosions were reported coming from inside the doctor's office, according to Jody Barr a KXAN investigator.

In a Twitter post the cops announced: "The SWAT situation has ended. Two subjects have been located and were pronounced deceased.

"The APD homicide unit is on scene and investigating. More information will be provided tomorrow by the PIO office."

Cops had arrived to the scene after being notified at 4:30pm local time on Tuesday.

Residents in the local area were told to remain indoors, though some evacuated.
