UK bank holidays 2023: Get 48 days off by booking just 19 days leave

UK bank holidays 2023: What days to expect off work this year – including dates at Easter, Christmas and one for the King’s coronation (and how to get 48 days off by booking just 19 days leave)

  • Employees can turn 19 days of annual leave into 48 days of ‘holiday’ in 2023
  • It is done by placing your annual leave around weekends and bank holidays
  • This only works for people in England and Wales who work Monday to Friday

The new year is officially in full swing, which means it’s time to starting booking your 2023 holidays.

Most workers in the UK are entitled to 28 days off annually, but this year employees can secure 48 days off by booking just 19 days of annual leave.

The UK Government has announced nine bank holidays this year, including an extra holiday to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III, who became monarch last year following the death of the Queen.

By carefully placing annual leave around weekends and bank holidays, employees who work Monday to Friday can stretch out their time off.

Each year the UK has a bank holiday to observe New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Easter, Christmas and Boxing Day.

The Government also holds bank holidays in early May, spring and summer.

But this year, Britons have been awarded an extra day to celebrate the King’s coronation, meaning the country will see observe three bank holidays in May alone.

Banks and public offices will be closed on May 1, 8 and 29 in honour of Early May bank holiday, the coronation and Spring bank holiday.

This comes just weeks after the country will experience a four-day weekend in April in observance of Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Here MailOnline shows you how to maximise your time off in 2023:

April
