UK set for 10 days of rain as Met Office issues miserable weather forecast

Britain faces 10 days of downpours as the reign of King Charles starts on a wet note.

Forecasters reckon it will rain every day between now and next Thursday (May 18) – following the cycle that the country has been living under for most of the last six months.

And the experts also say that despite thundery spells, we probably won’t be getting any particularly warm spells to soften the blow, either.

The deluge will be similar to the weather for Saturday's Coronation parade, but a world away from the 22c temperatures we enjoyed the following day.

It meant the Big Help Out volunteering day today (May 8) was more of a Big Squelch Out for the vast majority of the helpful nation.

Ex-BBC and Met Office forecaster John Hammond of weathertrending said: “The bunting will look increasingly damp and bedraggled as further rain-bearing weather systems cross the country.

“The jet stream will continue to weave a path close to our shores.

“It’s a mixed and occasionally cool outlook in the period to May 21, with intermittent spells of rain.

“There’s been no standout widespread warm spell so far this spring, and the charts are not giving convincing signs of a sudden surge in the mercury.”

A Met Office forecaster added: “After Monday’s cloud and sometimes heavy rain, Tuesday has slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms in the South and East.

“Sunshine and showers follow, with thicker cloud arriving into the northwest from Friday bringing longer spells of rain and drizzle here.”
