BRITS are braced for bone-chilling temperatures this week as an Arctic blast grips the country.
The mercury is predicted to plummet as low as -5C on Thursday night while Scotland could see up to five inches of snow into the weekend.
Yellow weather warnings for wind are in place over Northern Ireland, North Wales and North West England today, with gusts of up to 70mph to batter coastal regions.
It comes after the north east froze under Arctic air on Tuesday, with forecasters predicting the chill to continue until the end of the week.
Met Office forecaster Richard Miles, told The Sun Online: "It is turning chilly everywhere but the coldest weather isn't until tomorrow and Friday.
"Tomorrow you may see some wintry showers as far down as the Pennines but that will be on the high ground.

"Overnight in the north of the UK you’re looking at -5C in rural Scotland while in the south of the UK the minimum could reach -2C in rural Wales."
He added: "Then we'll see around -2C in the south of England on Saturday along with -4C in the north."
According to the Met Office forecast, Thursday will see "wintry showers across many parts of the UK" which will be "heavy at times and most frequent in north".

The chilly conditions will continue "across central and northern areas on Friday" while snow will "continue in Scotland".
The forecast adds: "Around 12 centimetres is likely to fall and it will stretch further south with a covering of snow possible in the north of England."

A yellow warning for snow over Scotland on Thursday also warns drivers could be hit by travel chaos, with icy surfaces leading to "increased likelihood of injuries or accidents".
