A Ukrainian woman was allegedly raped several times in front of her children just moments after her husband had been shot dead by Russian soldiers in their home.
The assault is alleged to have taken place in a town near Kyiv in the same room as her small child, with Ukrainian politician Maria Mezentseva speaking of the horrible crime as an example of Russian atrocities.
Ukraine's prosecutor-general Iryna Venediktova opened the country's first official rape investigation after a drunken soldier is said to have repeatedly raped a woman.
The soldier is also said to have broken into the family's home and killed the husband.
Venediktova says that two soldiers attacked the woman in Brovary, east Kyiv and that one had been identified and charges are being brought.
The prosecutor-general added that after shooting the husband dead and sexually assaulting the wife, the pair threatened the child with weapons.
Mezentseva, the head of Ukraine's Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, has said Ukraine will "not be silent" over the sex attacks and has said details of sex attacks must be recorded as they happen because "justice has to prevail".

Speaking to Sky, Mezentseva said: "There is one case which was very widely discussed recently because it's been recorded and proceeded with (by the prosecutor's office, and we're not going into details, but it's quite a scary scene when a civilian was shot dead in his house in a small town next to Kyiv.
"His wife was – I'm sorry but I have to say it – raped several times in front of her underage child.
"There are many more victims rather than just this one case which has been made public by the prosecutor general.
"And of course, we are expecting many more of them, which will be public once victims will be ready to talk about that."
Mezentseva added that there were two incidents of Russian soldiers shooting at civilians queuing for humanitarian aid, Daily Mail reports.
