United Airlines jumbo jet declares mid-air emergency over Scotland

AN AMERICAN jumbo jet has declared a mid-air emergency over Scotland.

The United Airlines plane issued a 7700 alert – indicating a general emergency – near the Isle of North Uist, Outer Hebrides, this afternoon.

The UAL47 flight – destined for Houston, USA – only took off from Frankfurt, Germany at 1.48pm.

It was due to land in America at 5pm, but has now re-routed to Ireland.

The nature of the emergency remains unknown at this time.

United Airlines has been approached for comment.
