Doctors in the US state of Florida have expressed concern over the rise in Covid cases linked to the Delta variant. Florida has emerged as the epicentre of the USA coronavirus with more than 110,000 new cases reported in the last week. Concern over the rising number of hospitalisations comes as the US belated met President Biden’s July 4 target of vaccinating 70 percent of adults with at least one shot.
On Sunday a reported 10,000 people were being treated in Florida hospitals for the virus.
According to France 24, the vast majority of patients seeking treatment are unvaccinated.
Infectious disease expert Dr Aileen Marty told France 24: “The numbers that we’re seeing are unbelievable.
“They are just unbelievably frightening.”

Health officials in the US have labelled the recent resurgence in Covid cases around the country as a “pandemic of the unvaccinated.”
The Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Rochelle Walensky said: “Communities that are fully vaccinated are generally faring well.
“While we desperately want to be done with this pandemic, Covid-19 is clearly not done with us, and so our battle must last a little longer.”
Fears over the new Delta variant have sparked a fresh wave of state-level heal measures in the US.

In the Mayor of New York Bill de Blasio has called for residents to continue wearing face coverings indoors.
Mr de Blasio said: “We want to strongly recommend that people wear a mask in indoor settings, even if you’re vaccinated.
“This is particularly true of course if you might be around anyone unvaccinated.”
New York also plans to issue a mandate requiring all customers and staff of restaurants, gyms and other indoor venues to have been vaccinated.
In total, around 60 percent of New York residents have received at least one vaccine dose.
On average the US is seeing 72,000 new Covid cases per day.
These figures remain below those seen at the height of the pandemic in the US in early January 2021.
During the peak of the outbreak, the CDC was reporting as many as 250,000 new cases each day.
