A van driver has been charged and is due to appear in court after a four-year-old girl was killed in a crash on the M4 near Newport.

Gracie-Ann Lucas, 4, was reportedly on her way home from a birthday party when the car she was travelling in smashed into a van.

Emergency services, including five ambulances and three fire crews, rushed to the scene on Saturday (Feb 5).

Police said the 41-year-old man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, as well as two offences of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The horror crash, which involved a van and a car, also seriously injured a three-year-old boy who remains in critical condition, police said.

A woman was also injured and remains in a stable condition in hospital.

Another man who was in the vehicle has been released from hospital.

The M4 was reportedly closed for seven hours as people were rushed to hospital from the scene.

She said: "My cousin and her 2 children was sadly in a car accident which lead to Gracie-Ann losing her life at the age of 4, as a family we'd love to give her the best possible send off with your help."
