Victims of the infected blood scandal will each receive £100,000 compensation ‘as soon as possible’, the Government is to announce.
Thousands of patients were infected with HIV and hepatitis C through contaminated blood transfusions in the 1970s and 1980s.

Last month, the Infected Blood Inquiry chairman, Sir Brian Langstaff, ruled that victims should receive payouts ‘without delay’.
Last night a No 10 source said: ‘The infected blood scandal was a tragedy for everyone involved, and the Prime Minister strongly believes that all those who suffered so terribly as a result of this injustice should receive compensation as quickly as possible.’
