Miss Gill wrote: ‘Someone needs to create porn for children. Hear me out. Young teens are already watching porn but they’re finding hard core, aggressive videos that give a terrible view of sex.
‘They need entry level porn! A soft core site where everyone asks for consent and no one gets choked.’ After provoking a huge backlash from other users, Miss Gill, who is the daughter of the late critic AA Gill, added that she defined children as those aged between 14 to 16 years old.
She deleted the tweet shortly afterwards. But thousands of accounts still responded to her follow-up posts where she complained about her words being saved and shared despite her hastily taking down the original remarks.
Dr Ben Janaway, an NHS psychiatrist, wrote on Twitter: ‘Has Flora Gill not heard of sex education?’
Another user said: ‘We should do entry level beer and entry level cannabis and whilst we’re at it, entry level coke. Not the best tweets.’ Miss Gill replied: ‘Well we kind of do have entry level alcohol. You can drink wine with a meal years before you can drink spirits at a bar.’
But Nic Keaney, who covers trends at Twitter, was more supportive of the idea.
She tweeted: ‘I really do think the consent idea is brilliant.’ Miss Gill responded: ‘That’s literally all I meant! There should be porn that focuses on consent etc, and we should stop pretending that under 18-year-olds aren’t watching it. But I get that my wording was…abysmal.’

After deleting the original tweet, Miss Gill tweeted later yesterday: ‘Absolutely not getting swept up into another Twitter cesspool so deleted tweet before it picks up steam! Obviously not an actual solution, but it is a real problem. Everyone take a deep breath.’
She added: ‘Apropos of nothing I really think if someone quickly deletes a tweet, it shouldn’t be screenshotted and shared…just let it die, you know? No? No one else agree?’
Miss Gill has dealt with attention on social media before after revealing details about her sex life on Twitter which were seen by her former Conservative MP mother, 57. After a man who Miss Gill lost her virginity to contacted her, she posted the message to social media asking users for advice on how best to reply.
Miss Rudd responded: ‘Your mother would like to speak to him’ – which instantly went viral.
Last night Miss Gill declined to comment.
