Weather forecast UK LIVE: Brits bask in 21C Easter Bank Holiday heatwave with London HOTTER than Gibraltar

BRITS are in for an Easter scorcher with baking temperatures of 21C hitting London today.

The weather has been hotting up since Wednesday and the long weekend has brought the hottest day of the year so far.

Good Friday temperatures have beaten the previous weather record of 20.8C (69.4F) on 23 March.

Weather expert Annie Shuttleworth said: “If people are travelling for sunshine, then further eastern areas are more likely to see that brighter weather.”

She added: “I think in the main for the bank holiday weekend, we’ll see temperatures quite widely above average across the UK and hopefully they could be very warm in the south-east in particular.

“Warmer than average certainly, but nowhere near heatwave criteria. It will definitely be warmer than the week we’ve just had and last week.”

    Easter sizzler kicks off

BRITS are set to sizzle in the sunshine this weekend as temperatures soar higher than in Ibiza today.

Highs on the party island in Spain are forecast to hit 18C – but the UK will be basking in a scorching 23C on Good Friday.

The UK is set to be hotter than parts of Spain all weekend, with the sunshine being sent from a plume of balmy air straight from the Sahara.

The Met Office has urged beach-goers to “stick on the sunscreen” and drink plenty of weather to protect themselves from the high UV levels.

Meteorologist Greg Dewhurst told The Sun: “It’s looking like a pretty good Easter Weekend overall across the country.

“There will be plenty of dry weather and sunny spells, with some light showers in Scotland.

“Temperatures could hit 22 or 23C today at the maximum temperature, which could make it the warmest day of 2022 so far.

“That will continue through much of the weekend, Saturday will see plenty of sunshine with some clouds across the western parts."

What weather Brits can expect today

Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin has said that: "For most Good Friday is set [to be] fair, fine and dry, probably a sunnier day. Certainly good spells of sunshine through the morning and some cloud will bubble up through the day, there is the possibility of one or two scattered showers during the afternoon but for most it should be dry.

"Again some coasts will be cooler and may stay murky but for most it is looking pretty pleasant with temperatures above average for the time of year, mid-high teens, 20C, 21C, maybe a little higher across the South East on Good Friday afternoon, maybe 22C or 23C in some spots."

In the north west, temperatures could reach a very reasonable 18C.

In Manchester Good Friday will likely similar temperatures and with sunny spells later in the afternoon.

In the north east, temperatures are likely to reach around 15C on today, with sunny intervals.

In the midlands, Good Friday looks set to be a glorious day with temperatures reaching 18C.
Birmingham and much of the surrounding areas can expect almost back-to-back sunshine.

How to keep your dog cool in hot weather

According to the RSPCA, this is the best way to keep pets comfortable in the heat:

    • Never leave your dog in a hot car, ever
    • Never leave your pets in any vehicle or caravan, or in a conservatory or outbuilding
    • Exercise dogs early in the morning and late evening when temperatures are cooler
    • Avoid over exercising dogs in warm weather and avoid encouraging them to over-exert themselves when playing
    • If you know your dog has an underlying condition, then take extra care in hot weather or consider skipping walks altogether
    • Always provide constant access to fresh, clean water and cool, shady resting spots
    • Avoid taking dogs on long days out in the heat; pavements can get very hot in the warm weather – if you can’t touch your hand on the ground for five seconds then it’s too hot for your pooch’s paws too
    • If necessary, use a pet-safe sun cream on exposed parts of your pets skin

Deadly dog warning for pet owners this Easter

DOG owners have been warned to keep a close eye on their pets this Easter weekend as temperatures soar to 22C.

Beautiful springtime weather is on the way, with stunning sunshine predicted across the country.

But as the mercury rockets, Brits are urged to keep their dogs safe on the warmest days of the year so far.

The dangers of leaving a pet in a hot car are well known – but animal welfare groups are also highlighting the risk of walking dogs in the heat.

Reps from groups including the RSPCA, Battersea Dogs and Cars Home, the Dogs Trust and the Kennel Club have teamed up for campaign Dogs Die On Hot Walks.

Esme Wheeler, dog welfare expert for the RSPCA, said: “It’s great that we can expect some warm weather for the long Easter weekend, and no doubt many people will be heading off in the car for a break, days out, or long walks in the sunshine.

“However, even mildly warm weather can pose serious risks for our pets, so it’s really important we do everything we can to keep them comfortable and safe.

"The message is simple: never leave a dog in a hot car.

"'Not long’ is too long, and if you see a dog in a hot car, call 999 immediately.”

She said many flout the "very clear" message – meaning their pets could die.

Good morning, Milica Cosic with you today until 2pm. I'll be bringing you the latest news and updates on the UK Weather.

Could the highest temperature record be broken for the year?

The highest temperatures seen so far this year hit 20.8C.

But it’s likely to be a little under 2C warmer than that this long weekend.

“We’ll see temperatures generally come up through the week,” Ms Annie Shuttleworth said.

“From Thursday onwards, temperatures could reach 20C, 21C, quite possibly 22C.”

      ‘Some very pleasant spring conditions’

Neil Armstrong, Chief Meteorologist, said: “Most people will see some spells of decent bank holiday weather this weekend, and it will feel warm in places, particularly for the first half of the Easter break.

“However, a low-pressure system will affect the northwest of the UK later Sunday, bringing unsettled weather to the north with some strong winds and rain in the northwest, which could impact driving conditions for some, but further south it will be drier, especially in the southeast.

“There will be varying amounts of cloud, but temperatures are widely likely to be above average for the time of year, although low cloud might keep temperatures lower in coastal areas.

“However, where the sun comes out people can expect some very pleasant spring conditions.”

Easter weekend set for pollen bomb

BRITS are set for a pollen bomb this Easter weekend as the temperature creeps up.

The Met Office warns of “very high” levels of spores for most of England going into the bank holiday weekend.

It will aggravate symptoms for some of the 10 million Brits with hay fever, with one in five people estimated to have the condition.

From Wednesday, all regions of England will have very high pollen counts, other than the North East which will have medium.

The picture will stay the same all the way through until Saturday, the Met Office says, with predictions for Sunday not out yet.

    • The Sun

      Odds slashed

Bookmakers are expecting a scorcher too, with Ladbrokes slashing its odds to 5/2 for it being the hottest Easter on record.

Spokesman Alex Apati said: “It looks as though a record-breaking hot Easter could now be on the cards if the latest odds are anything to go by.”

Stormy washout to hit after glorious Easter weekend

This Easter bank holiday is expected to be fantastic with warm weather and sun

Following the balmy highs of 21C this Easter bank holiday weekend, the rest of the week next week, is expected to be a total wash out.

Widespread downpours, and chilly breezes are thought to set in on Tuesday, just as the bank holiday ends and the working week restarts.

Best of the weather to come TODAY

The Met Office said that the best of the weather will hit on Good Friday – ahead of the Easter weekend.

They said that southerly airflow will bring the mild temperatures this weekend, with the mercury peaking at 22C in the south east.

The forecasters added: “On Saturday we will see a mixture of clear and sunny spells with cloudier areas and some showers.

“Those showers will be most likely in central and western areas early in the day but could develop elsewhere at times.

“A few mist and fog patches inland at first and more extensive areas of low cloud and fog around some coasts will suppress temperatures a bit in those places, particularly in the east.

“Elsewhere it will feel warm, especially in any sunshine, but perhaps slightly cooler than Friday.”

Scotland’s wet weather should clear for bank holiday

Windy storms and rain continue to pour into the bank holiday weekend over Scotland and the north of England.

However, it seems that the grey clouds should lift as the weekend goes on, according to the Met Office.

Met Office warn of foggy patches covering the UK tonight

Late night drivers will need to be careful of pockets of fog this evening after dark.

While today’s weather has warmed up for the most parts, drivers this evening will need to be careful of misty conditions and low lying clouds descending across roads. This will most likely occur in coastal areas.

Are you prepared for this Summer?

The weather is already heating up, so we may be in for a hot Summer.

Many consider the Summer to be a time to be enjoyed rather than a threat. While it should be enjoyed, we should also stay safe.

Some of the key things to consider include:
      – Pollen: ensure you have antihistamines if you suffer from hay fever
      – UV rays: wear sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat if out and about for a long time in the sun
      – Dehydration: drink enough so that you don’t faint or something more serious
      – Potential heavy downpour: heavy rains and storms can occur in the Summer too. Keep a brolly nearby just in case
