BRITS can look forward to summer returning in days as the Met Office predict a 20C weekend as storms finally clear.
The past couple of days have seen thunderstorms batter the UK and the stormy weather looks like it will stay for just a little longer.
Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said the week will bring “three days or so of rain, showers and a keen breeze especially on Wednesday and Thursday before the weather settles down for the weekend.”
As the weekend fast approaches, warm sunny spells will begin to move in.
Met Office forecaster Clare Nasir said: “Windy on Wednesday and Thursday before things slowly settle down from the south on Friday and the promise of some sunshine on Saturday.
"Rain then makes inroads across Scotland, Wales as well as the West Country through the early hours of the morning (today) and yes a lively end to the night here and a cool one towards the South East under some clearer skies but some brighter weather to start the day on Wednesday.
"But not the case in Scotland, it is a wet and windy start, away from Shetland you could see some brighter skies before the cloud thickens and then you’ll see the rain. The rain descends down towards Cumbria and Northumberland as well as the north west of England.
"Northern Ireland seeing some rain, some showers hot on the heels of that rain and that wet weather descends down to Wales. The West Country some showery bursts just ahead of it.”

What has caused the thunderstorms?
Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said the weather so far this week is caused by air rising up from the surface and creating large shower clouds in a process known as convergence.
"We have plenty of showers that have developed across the UK, and the focus of those showers has pushed eastwards," he said.
"We have seen some hail, some thunder, and some lightning."
In addition, a rare funnel cloud was spotted off the coast of Kent.
Mr Burkill said: "A tornado is a funnel cloud, except a funnel cloud becomes a tornado when it touches the ground."
However, in reassuring news for locals, he added: "Even if it had come down to the ground it would have been quite a weak feature.
"I don't think it would have caused anyone any more problems than just a strong gust of wind."

Exact date temperatures hit balmy 20C after thunderstorms
Spring has taken a stormy turn as hailstones "the size of chickpeas" pelted the south – but stunning sunshine will soon make a return.
The mercury will rise to a balmy 20C tomorrow after a brief interruption in the gorgeously warm May weather.
Yesterday, Londoners ran for cover from rainstorms and bizarrely unseasonal hail.
And while today will remain overcast and comparatively cool, better days are on the way.
Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said the weather so far this week is caused by air rising up from the surface and creating large shower clouds in a process known as convergence.
"We have plenty of showers that have developed across the UK, and the focus of those showers has pushed eastwards," he said.
Forecasters predict highs of 20C tomorrow and Friday, and while the temperature will dip to 18C on Saturday, there should still be plenty of sun.

Forecast for May 27 – 20 June
Conditions are set to worsen towards the end of June with ‘some less settled and cooler weather’ a possibility, particularly in northern regions.
The Met Office long range weather forecast for May 27 to June 5 reads: “Dry conditions with sunny spells are expected for most on Friday, although some cloud and light rain or showers are likely to be seen in the northern regions. Over the weekend, fine and dry weather will persist, however some light showers remain possible, especially in the north and east.
“Near normal temperatures can be expected for most, perhaps feeling warmer in the south and southwest. Into the following week, the weather is likely to become more settled, with any few showers most likely to be seen in the north and east.
“This means drier conditions and above average temperatures for most, particularly in the south and southeast, and fewer showers all round. As we move into the beginning of June, drier than average conditions are expected to persist overall.”
The forecast for June 6 to June 20 states: “In the beginning of June, we can expect to see a lot of dry weather across the UK. Temperatures may potentially become warm in the south and southwest but remaining closer to average in the north. Later on in June, we may however see some less settled and cooler weather, particularly in northern regions.”

Warning venomous false widows to invade UK
The country’s only venomous spider is thought to be surging in numbers because of the current warm weather.
Spiders experts are warning the UK false widows are coming out hibernation and multiplying.
Pest control expert Clive Boase told the Daily Star: “The population of false widows in the UK is growing all the time. People don’t realise just how common they have become. They can survive both indoors and outdoors.
“They are generally shy creatures and won’t come out into the open – but they could crawl into curtains or perhaps clothing left on the floor.”

Odds slashed on hottest summer in records
Leading bookmaker Coral has slashed the odds on this summer being the UK’s hottest since records began to just 2-1 (from 4-1) as long range forecasts hint at some sweltering weather ahead.
Coral make it just 5-4 on 30 degrees being reached anywhere in the UK over the Jubilee weekend.
“This time last year it was a very wet end to spring and start to summer, however this time around it couldn’t be more different. We have slashed the odds on the UK’s hottest summer ever being recorded and also think 30 degrees or more is on the way for the long weekend coming up at the start of June,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.

Heavy rains could damage your lawn, here is how to fix it
The coming heavy rain the UK has been experiencing combined with the hot dry weather could spell disaster for some gardens. However, all is not lost…
Spring was unusually dry and cold recently. It seemed to have hit late this year with a wet May.
Following heavy rain do not mow your grass once the rain has stopped. Add some fertiliser and leave it be for a couple of days.
Keep an eye out for mushroom growth, if there are any, pull them out.
Mow the grass once it is dry, but be careful to not cut it too short. The longer blades protect the ground from drying up.
