We're blocked in our home nearly every day by selfish Co-op drivers… we complained & they fobbed us off with £10 voucher | The Sun

A FAMILY is being blocked into their homes nearly every day by selfish Co-Op delivery drivers who park outside their front door.

Jamie Briggs, 35, complained to the supermarket chain over the massive arctic lorries which stop outside their homes.

But they were fobbed off with a £10 voucher – leaving Jamie, his partner Sally and their baby daughter Lily fuming.

The couple struggle to fit the baby's pram out the front door in Bromyard, Herefordshire.

Selfish lorry drivers park so close because they're trying to align their rear-end as near as possible to the goods entrance for the Co-Op.

Jamie told The Sun: "They tend to arrive between 8am and 9am, just as you have to be getting to work.

Innocent Olivia, 9, was gunned down by hitman at bedtime as she hid behind mum

"I used to be able to squeeze myself down the side but with the pushchair there’s no chance.

"It’s our only exit and there’s no excuse because there is 23 foot between our front wall and the pavement across the road and these lorries are only eight and a half foot wide."

Jamie complained to the staff in the shop and asked them to put up a sign urging drivers to park elsewhere.

But nothing happened, and the drivers continued to block them in.

"It is not every driver," said Jamie, who runs his own car business.

"Some are considerate and give us five foot of room which is all we need.

"Others agree to move and let us out but before they can do anything they have to re-secure everything and that takes 10 minutes.

"Others just tell us to wait in our house until they are finished.

"I complained to the Co-Op head office who sent me back a £10 voucher.

"Now they don’t respond to my emails. We just want it sorting."

Sally, 28, added: "I have had to bang on the side of the lorries before now to get their attention so I can get out with Lily.

"The deliveries last for 20 to 30 minutes.

PARK OFF

"On one occasion the driver said he was on his compulsory break, moved to let me out and then moved back again to finish his break.

"They can see they are blocking someone’s front door. It is just thoughtless."

On one occasion, the couple had put out their bin for collection only for the driver to push it back into their doorway.

"The bin was not collected," said Jamie.

"We complained and then a note appeared on it saying, ‘I TOOK THE TROUBLE TO GET YOUR BIN EMPTIED. DON’T BOTHER TO SAY THANK YOU!!!’ It was weird because we did not know who had done it."

Jamie has even rung the police’s non-emergency line for help: "They were just sarcastic. The man said, 'shall I come down and tell them off' in a very sarcastic way.

"I rang the Council and they referred me to a parking fines company but they don’t even pick up their phone and you can’t leave a message."

Neighbour Alan Green, 57, backed up the couple: "Blocking us in like they do is terrible and when you have a pushchair like Jamie and Sally, it’s quite impossible. There is no need for it."

A spokesperson for Co-op, said: "We apologise for the inconvenience caused and are currently working with our delivery drivers to prevent the issue in the future."
