What is a mercenary soldier?

A mercenary soldier is a private individual who is hired to participate in military conflict for personal profit, as opposed to someone loyal to one side or the other.

The Geneva Conventions is a collection of four treaties, compromising of the international legal standards for humanitarian treatment during war.

Within The Geneva Conventions lay out the basic rights for wartime prisoners; the established protections for the wounded and sick; and provided protections for civilians in and around a war-zone.
