Zeldin is an American attorney who opened a law practice in Smithtown, New York after serving four years of active duty in the US Army.
He operated the firm full time until he was elected to the New York State Senate in 2010.
In 2014 he was elected to the US House of Representatives, representing New York’s First Congressional District.
Zeldin also serves on two Committees in the House of Representatives: Financial Services and Foreign Affairs.

Zeldin announced he wanted to run for governor of New York in the November 2022 election.
He tweeted his desire to campaign for the role, writing: “I’ll bring the kind of relentless, fighting spirit towards helping to save our state that Cuomo reserves for multi-million dollar self-congratulatory book deals, cover-ups, abuse & self-dealing.”
The congressman also slammed New York’s “1-party Dem rule in NYC & Albany,” saying “the light that was a beacon of what America can be has gone dark.
“The NY once a magnet for the world’s best & brightest is now forcing its own to leave under the weight of crushing taxes, lost jobs, suffocating regulations, & rising crime,” he wrote.
He addressed the public on Fox and Friends on April 8 and told viewers: “We are going to win this race. I’m all in. We are all in.”

The primary election was held on June 28 with Zeldin winning the Republican spot against Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul.
Zeldin easily won the Republican primary receiving 43.9 percent of the votes versus his closest ranked opponent Andrew Guiliani, who received only 22.8 percent of the votes.
