Dahmer was not formally charged for the murder of Steven Tuomi due to lack of evidence, but the serial killer confessed to the killing.

Tuomi's family reported him missing three months after his disappearance and his father, Walter, claimed Milwaukee police saidthey couldn't help because there were no signs of foul play.

What happened to Steven Tuomi?

On November 20, 1987 Dahmer met Mr Tuomi at a gay bar and lured him back to the Ambassador hotel, as he had rented a room.

Later, the serial killer would admit he had no intention of murdering the 24-year-old, but he did want to drug and sexually assault him.

However, the Milwaukee Monster claimed when he woke up in the morning, his victim's chest was caved in, his body was convered in bruises and there was blood coming out of his mouth.

When Dahmer looked at his hands, they too were bloody and bruised but he maintained he had no memory of killing the young man.

Police reports stated Dahmer said he "could not believe this had happened."

At the time of the murder, Dahmer was living with his grandmother and he took Mr Tuomi's body back to her house in a large suitcase.

There he decapitated the head, dissected the arms and legs and removed the bones from the body.

Then the killer cut up the remaining flesh and placed it inside rubbish bags before shattering the bones with a sledgehammer.

It was said the whole process took Dahmer around two hours, and every part of the victim's body was thrown away in the bins.

However, the head proved more difficult for Dahmer to dispose of and he kept it wrapped in a blanket for two weeks.

Dahmer eventually boiled the head in a mixture of Soilex (an alkali-based industrial detergent) and bleach so he could keep the skull, which he used for masturbation.

In the end the skull had to be disposed of as it was too badly damaged from the acid-bath.

Who were Jeffrey Dahmer's other victims?

Dahmer was sentenced to 15 consecutive life-terms for the murder of 17 young boys and men.
