Woman, 22, stabbed to death in high rise apartment building as man, 44, arrested | The Sun

A 22-YEAR-OLD woman was stabbed to death in a high rise apartment with a man since arrested over the tragedy.

Elinor O'Brien was discovered injured and unresponsive inside Great Northern Tower on Watson Street in Manchester city centre on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to the high-rise to find the 22-year-old badly injured.

They rushed her to hospital but sadly Elinor could not be saved and she died of her injuries.

Her family are being supported through their grief by specially trained officers just ahead of what would have been their daughter's 23rd birthday next week.

The young woman has been described as "beautiful inside and out" as tributes continue pouring in.

A 44-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of section 18 assault and he has since been charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Kevin Mannion, 44, who lives on Watson Street, appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court on Friday and was remanded into custody.

One woman known to Elinor said: "Elinor was a beautiful young girl with the rest of her life ahead of her. She would have been 23 next week on August 28.

"She was loved by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her, she lit up the room with her infectious smile and laughter.

"Many hearts have been shattered and will never be the same. RIP our angel."

Another woman posted on Facebook: "We will miss you Eli, beautiful inside and out. Taken too early. May you rest in peace now."

A third wrote: "I can't actually believe what I'm reading. I worked with Elinor for years and had the pleasure of being one of her friends, she was a beautiful girl who deserved much more and you will be truly missed. Rest in peace gorgeous girl."

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said they had been called about 12.30pm on Tuesday August 16 to a "request for assistance" from ambulance services.

They said: "Officers attended the scene, and it was quickly established the woman had been stabbed.

"A 44-year-old male was arrested at the scene on suspicion of a section 18 assault and charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
