Woman, 60, and man, 77, arrested over death of baby in Lancashire

TWO people have been arrested after a baby boy died four days after being rushed to hospital.

Police were scrambled to a home in Hapton, Lancs, last Tuesday following reports a child had suffered a medical episode.

The tot was rushed to Royal Manchester Hospital but sadly couldn't be saved and died four days later.

A 60-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

They have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Officers have not released the age of the baby boy.

Lancashire Police said: “We were called around 1.20pm on Tuesday, March 1st, to an address in Hapton, following reports a baby had suffered a medical episode.

“Emergency services attended and the child was taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital for treatment, however he sadly passed away on March 5th.

"His family are now being supported by specially-trained officers.

"A police investigation is under way to establish what caused the death of the child. We are keeping an open mind and would ask the public not to speculate."
