Woman dead, two children in hospital after Mooroolbark house fire

A woman is dead and two children are in hospital after a house fire in Mooroolbark, in Melbourne’s outer north-east, overnight.

Emergency services were called to the blaze in Maralee Drive about 9pm, and when fire crews entered the burning house they found the three inside.

The woman had injuries to her stomach and the two children were unconscious when they were found. They are believed to be the only three occupants home at the time of the fire.

Ambulance crews treated all three at the scene but the woman died.

A boy and a girl suffered smoke inhalation and are in a critical condition in hospital and their father is with them.

Police are investigating the cause of the blaze, however, they are not looking for anyone at this time.
