A woman was left stunned when she re-watched her doorbell camera to find a stranger marking down the breed of her dogs while was out.
Nicola Freestone, who lives in West Kirkby, was convinced the man was targeting to snatch her dogs and posted the footage on a community Facebook group to warn other dog owners.
She explained that the man came by her house when she was out with her son shortly after 8pm on Thursday (October 14) and soon she received a notification from her Ring doorbell.
In the short clip, the man walks up to the door and looks inside Nicola's house through the glass panel on the side.
"Pomeranian," he murmurs, then takes out a pen and a piece of paper, jotting some notes down.
Nicola wrote on the Facebook post: "Just seen this guy on our ring doorbell video come to our house in West Kirby.
"It looks like they are checking houses for dogs, he looks through the glass in the door through to the kitchen where our dogs are and says Pomeranian, ours isn’t a Pomeranian but he is a white fluffy dog"
She also contacted Merseyside Police but she's been left scared to go out alone with her dogs in case there are attempts to steal them.
Nicola told Liverpool Echo: "When I watched it at first I didn't realise what he'd said, but then I watched it again. One of our dogs is a fluffy white thing and you can see him look in the direction of the kitchen and say 'Pomeranian' and write it down.
"I have no idea why he said it out loud like there. It's not a Pomeranian but I suppose it could look a bit like one.
"I put it on the Crimewatch Wirral group to warn other people and people said to report it.
"There were a lot of comments from people who said they'd seen people with a similar description or similar things happen to them."
She was told by the police that there were other reports of dogs being targeted in this way.

"A lady who lives up the road said someone she knew had that happen to her and now I'm petrified of leaving them in the house," Nicola added.
"I'm scared to go for a walk with them in the dark on my own and won't do that now. I'm worried now about what will happen."
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We were contacted at 8.30pm last night, Thursday, October 14, by a resident of Frankby Road in West Kirby following reports that 20 minutes earlier a man had been seen on her ring doorbell looking through her door and window.
"The male left a short time later. There is no suggestion he attempted to enter the property.
"Local policing officers have been made aware."
