Woman is raped near pier in popular Devon tourist resort as police issue CCTV of suspect

Police have launched an appeal for information following reports a woman was raped in Paignton near the popular Devon resort’s seafront area.
The incident is reported to have taken place near Paignton Pier between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on 29 June.
Devon and Cornwall Police have now released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.
The force urged anyone who knows the man shown in the images to contact them anonymously.
Detectives said they would also like to hear from anyone with their own CCTV or dash-cam footage of the Paignton seafront area.

The police force said the female victim is currently being supported by specially trained officers.
The published CCTV images show a man with medium-length hair, wearing a turquoise EA7 sweater and matching tracksuit bottoms.
Paignton is a popular seaside resort on the coast of Tor Bay in Devon which lies around 25 miles east of Plymouth.
The Devon town’s seafront area is dominated by the 240 metre long pleasure pier that first opened in 1879.
Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement: ‘Detectives are investigating a report of a rape that happened in Paignton on Thursday 29 June.
‘It was reported to have taken place in the area of the Pier between 10.30pm and 11.30pm.

‘Police have released pictures of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident. The female victim is being supported by specially trained officers.
‘Police investigating the incident would like to identify the man pictured as they believe he may be able to assist with their enquiries.
‘Anyone who knows the man pictured is urged to call police on 101 or report information online via our website quoting log 511 of 30 June.
‘Officers would also like to hear from anyone with dash-cam or CCTV footage in the area of Paignton Seafront which may assist our enquiries.
