Women on social media celebrate how many days they have been a woman

‘Where’s my sponsorship?’ Social media users celebrate how many days they’ve been a woman and their lives as mothers – in backlash at Dylan Mulvaney’s Bud Light campaign celebrating her 365 days of ‘girlhood’

  • Dylan Mulvaney, the high profile transgender influencer, was announced on April 1 as an ‘ambassador’ for Bud Light
  • The beer makers produced a can with Mulvaney’s face on it, to celebrate the 365 days since she began her transition to becoming a woman
  • The backlash has been intense: now conservatives are posting their days of womanhood – or manhood – on social media, and celebrating their sex at birth

Conservative women have been sharing on social media their number of days lived as a woman, in response to Bud Light’s decision to celebrate transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney’s ‘365 days of girlhood’.

Mulvaney, 26, came out as a trans woman in March 2022 and began chronicling her ‘Days of Girlhood’ on TikTok, detailing her experience of transitioning.

Mulvaney marked her 221st day, in October, with a visit to the White House, where she interviewed Joe Biden about trans healthcare and the president said he felt ‘people fear what they don’t know.’

On April 1 she announced she was an ‘ambassador’ for Bud Light, and the beer maker had created a special edition can to celebrate 365 days since she began living as a woman.

The move generated an intense backlash, and women are now sharing their own ‘days of womanhood’ online with posts beginning with the phrase ‘Today, I celebrate’ – a trend some men have jumped on, too.

Dylan Mulvaney made the announcement herself on Instagram during the beer company’s promotional event for the NCAA March Madness tournament

‘Today I celebrate 12,620 days of real womanhood,’ tweeted one, going by MAGA Barbie.

‘Where’s my sponsorship? @budweiserusa @Tampax @Nike.’

Lauren Boebert, the firebrand Republican congresswoman representing Colorado, tweeted: ‘Today, I celebrate 13,262 days of being a woman. I’ve been pregnant five times (miscarried in 2012) and gave birth to a four incredible boys that came out of my womb.

‘Any day now, one of those four boys will make me a grandmother.

‘Womanhood is so much more than just dressing up in makeup and a skirt for internet videos.’

Another said: ‘Today I celebrate 18,155 days of womanhood.

‘I’ve held 8 babies in my womb. I gave birth to/raised 6. I went through triple negative breast cancer & would’ve had ovarian cancer had I not had my ovaries removed in time. No man can say these things, even if he appropriates my gender.’

One woman posted a photo of her pregnant stomach, and said: ‘Today, I celebrate 12,065 days of being a woman.

‘I’m a sister, aunt, daughter, granddaughter, and now a mother. I’ve endured 229 menstrual cycles. I’ve been pregnant one time & gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. My body grew a human child, and my body is now feeding a human child.

‘No man can say he has done these things because you cannot change your gender.’

One woman, describing herself as ‘Proud Patriot Trump’, tweeted: ‘Today, I celebrate 20,756 days of being a woman.

‘I’m former women’s college athlete, a daughter, a sister and a lesbian. I DO NOT support the alphabet soup agenda.

‘I’ve survived breast cancer and been through early menopause and I refuse to let anyone try to discredit me as a women [sic].’

Another said: ‘Today, I celebrate 8,607 days of being a woman.

‘I’ve had about 100 menstrual cycles.

‘I’ve never been pregnant, but I will be some day.

‘I’ve had bad cells on my uterus that are currently being monitored.

‘No man can ever understand any of this.’

Some men joined in the movement.

‘Today I celebrate 12, 214 days of NOT being a woman,’ said ‘Travis in Flint’.

‘I can have children, but I can never be pregnant.

‘I was born to lead my family, provide, and protect. My testosterone level gives me a deeper voice, more muscle strength, and more bone strength.

‘Drugs can reduce this and make me feminine, but I’ll never be a woman.

‘I am not better than women, but I am different. Women have achieved great things, and to watch men attempt to erase them is a disgrace to everyone.’

Another added: ‘Today I celebrate 21,300 or so days of being a man. And not one of those days did I question if I was or was not. My math sucks, I know.’

But some trans women joined Mulvaney in celebrating their ‘days of womanhood’.

Kerri Elyse Colby, who took part in Ru Paul’s Drag Race, tweeted: ‘3 years, 1095 days, over 1.5 million minutes.

‘I have dedicated my life and my future to authenticity and today I celebrate my tranniversary! #TransDayOfVisibility.’

And some took issue with the concept.

‘Today I celebrate being a woman for 17,784 days,’ said one.

‘I’ve given birth to 2 amazing kids. I’ve had rough periods, cervical dysplasia and uterine ablations.

‘I also run a business & volunteer in my community. None of this makes me more a woman than anyone else. Let TW be joyful ffs.’
