Alicia Keys to Be the First Female to Host Grammys in 14 Years: ‘I’m So Excited’
AceShowbiz -The one who gets the honor to host the 61st Grammy Awards has finally been revealed. Alicia Keys announced through a nine-minute YouTube video that she will take the hosting duty of the annual award-giving event, showing the moment she learns about the hosting gig.
The video featured the Grammy-winning singer having a phone call with her manager, who broke the exciting news to Keys. She then began dancing and shouting, “Yeah!” before joking, “Wait, what if I don’t want to do it?” Keys later went to rehearsals and dress fittings, telling her friends and family of her new hit. “Damn, this has got to be such an exciting show this year because of all the female artists and performers,” she said in the video.
Keys additionally issued a statement expressing her excitement about the hosting gig. “I know what it feels like to be on that stage, and I’m going to bring that vibe and energy,” she said. “I’m so excited to be the master of ceremonies on the biggest night in music and celebrate the creativity, power and magic. I’m especially excited for all the incredible women nominated this year! It’s going up on February 10!”
Recording Academy President Neil Portnow also expressed his excitement to book the “Girl on Fire” singer for the gig, explaining why she was the perfect choice for the gig. “A dynamic artist with the rare combination of groundbreaking talent and passion for her craft, Alicia Keys is the perfect choice as host for our show,” he said. “As an artist who speaks to the power of music for good, a role model, and a spokesperson for change, we are thrilled to have her on board for what’s sure to be an unforgettable GRAMMY Awards.”
Keys will be the first woman to host the Grammy Awards since Queen Latifah in 2005.
The 61st Grammy Awards will be held on February 10 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Kendrick Lamar dominates the nominations with eight nods.
