London's best bespoke treatments for a personalised approach to beauty

Beauty trends are increasingly embracing a personalised, individual approach.

Consumers are no longer treated with a ‘one size fits all’ mindset and thanks to developments in AI, consumers are now demanding a more bespoke beauty ritual.

Apps for a while filled the void of personalisation when stores closed during lockdown and beauty assistants were no longer available to help.

Now London has reopened its doors, there are plenty of tailor-made beauty products and treatments to experience.

Here are some we reckon are worth a try.

Skincare

One of the most popular areas in bespoke beauty is skincare, as all of our needs are different.

For a serum that works perfectly for you, there’s SkinCeuticals Custom-Dos,e which is draws on on 250 different ingredient combinations to create a blend made of the active ingredients you want and need.

The service pays particular attention to wrinkles, pigmentation and other signs of ageing skin.

After you speak with a dermatologist, the mix will take just five minutes to get ready. Then in three months you can go back and see if the serum needs adjusting, if your skin has changed in that time.

Available at a few London locations including Selfridges – find out more here.

Massage

For a bespoke and truly luxurious massage, look no further than Sarah Jane Watson, who works freelance and offers a 90-minute full body massage that is tailored to your needs, in your home.

After a consultation, which will discuss both your physical and emotional state of being, Sarah will personalise the experience according to your conversation, telling us that her ‘hands become the eyes’.

Having previously worked outside of the bespoke world, she didn’t like how formulaic massages were and felt she wasn’t truly getting to the core of what clients needed.

Now she prioritises making clients feel ‘safe’ and held through massage, which is enhanced by her use of essential oils for a relaxing surrounding scent and a heated blanket (as blood pressure and therefore body temperature typically typically in massages).

During our experience she gave special attention to the jaw and various pressure points not usually tapped into quite so deeply – safety certainly was the overwhelming feeling.

Perfume

Ever wanted to design your own perfect fragrance that balances your favourite notes just right? Well, now you can.

Book in for a bespoke session at Experimental Perfume Club’s bricks and mortar store in London’s Covent Garden.

There you’ll have time to sit down one to tone with company founder and perfumer Emmanuelle Moeglin, for either an hour and a half or three hours, if you’re being meticulous.

As well as testing out many different notes, you’ll learn how to pair them and why some combinations work better together than others.

Makeup

London offers a little less currently in the way of truly bespoke makeup, though there are brands with smarter systems in place to colour match you than in years gone by.

A new and exciting brand, DCYPHER, launched back last year online. The idea is you send in pictures of your skin, then they whip up a sample of the perfect shade matched foundation.

You also get to pick how high the coverage is and the finish, be it glowy or matte.

If the sample you get isn’t right, they’ll send out a new sample for free until you get the perfect match. Then they’ll send you the full bottle once you’re happy.

You’d think this bespoke service would come at a high cost, but it’s in line with most regular non-bespoke foundations.

The platform is set to be available in real life, too, in the near future, so watch this space in the capital. It’ll take some of the guesswork out of getting the shade right on the first go.

Get the custom foundation for £28.

Hair

Bespoke blend brand, Function of Beauty, offer custom products for skin, hair and body. The company began with their hair products, though, making this their most popular offering.

All consumers need to do is fill out a detailed quiz online that asks them to consider their hair type and needs. Then the company put together a formula to suit those answers, providing shampoo, conditioner, purple shampoo, serum, leave-ins and hair masks.

To make it better, both parts of the product packaging are fully recyclable (just separate the cap from the bottle) and you get the option of a pump, too, which you can reuse on your next bottle.

While not physically in London yet, this brand ships to the UK.
