Tatcha Products That Are Worth The Hype

Founded by Victoria Tsai after suffering from dermatitis, the Japanese skin care brand Tatcha adopts a “less is more” approach, only giving customers the essentials — but with a luxe twist. Tatcha is dedicated to “pure beauty,” meaning that the brand works thoroughly with scientists to create effective formulas with natural, clean, cruelty-free ingredients (via Tatcha).

Tatcha’s signature ingredient is Hadasei-3, “a trinity of anti-aging superfoods born from the Japanese diet, and the basis for the original geisha beauty rituals,” per the brand’s website. Tatcha’s overall inspiration derives from an undisclosed ancient Japanese text, said to be the oldest beauty book written in Japan and perhaps the world, which is filled with seven chapters “devoted to beauty and elegance in both appearance and spirit” (via Tatcha).

If this sounds too good (or convoluted) to be true, it isn’t. Tatcha has some of the best skin care on the market — with fans like Meghan Markle and Kim Kardashian (per Harper’s Bazaar) — even if you pay a hefty price for it. Here are some Tatcha products that are totally worth the hype.

Tatcha's best skin care products

If you have dry skin and can’t seem to find any moisturizer rich enough, we have a holy grail product for you. Tatcha’s The Dewy Skin Cream Plumping & Hydrating Moisturizer has a thick consistency and smooth texture that glides easily onto the face for a luminous glow. With the intensity of this product, a little goes a long way, and it comes with a little golden spoon to make sure you scoop out the perfect pea-sized amount without infecting the product with your fingers. Made with Japanese purple rice, known to combat skin stress, this moisturizer helps plump fine lines as well. It’s not hard to understand why it won Refinery29’s 2019 Beauty Innovator Award (per Refinery29).

If you’re looking to combat dullness and increase your skin’s radiance, the Violet-C Brightening Serum 20% Vitamin C + 10% AHA is the way to go. Made without oil, this serum can be used on all skin types to tackle dark spots and help even your complexion. Use it at night, before your moisturizer, and massage it in gently yet thoroughly. Only one to two pumps are needed, meaning this product will last you months.

Tatcha products that keep your makeup looking great

Tatcha’s The Silk Canvas Protective Primer is a must-have if you want to look put together all day. This versatile product comes in a creamy, velvety formula that can be used on the face, eyelids, and even lips to prep your skin for makeup and lock your look into place for a lasting, flawless finish. Made without fragrance or parabens, it can also be used alone to reduce the appearance of pores and fine lines.

Another product that works to prep the skin for makeup — or refresh your makeup after hours of wear — is the Luminous Dewy Skin Mist. Kim Kardashian swears by this refreshing, hydrating spray (via Allure), which is made with Okinawa red algae, squalene, silk extract, and, of course, Hadasei-3. The travel-size version is perfect to keep in your purse so you can refresh your foundation throughout the day.
