Tia Mowry Has Just Expanded Her Wellness Brand

If you're not already hip, I'm here to tell you that Tia Mowry is like a breath of fresh, unmasked air (and you know how valuable that is these days).

Aside from Sister Sister premiering on Netflix last fall and giving all of us the nostalgia we needed to get through the worst of the pandemic blues, I also started binge-watching Tia Mowry's Quick Fix on YouTube.

I ran out of episodes in no time (don't worry fellow Quick Fixers, the actress told me a whole new season is dropping soon!), but man, it was hard to be miserable about the state of the world with Mowry's genuine happiness and excitement in every episode. And that's the exact same authentic energy she brought to our conversation.

That said, it's easy to see why the mother-of-two was destined to create Anser, a vitamin and supplements line designed to help women take charge of their own health. She also couldn't have picked a better time to release it: January 2020, just a few months before… well, you know.

Now, Mowry has expanded her line, offering new options like the Women's Multivitamin Gummies, Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies, and Heart Beets Super Food Powder for heart health. Plus, the Women's Multivitamin Capsules, Elderberry Gummies, and Beauty Formula Capsules from the initial launch are now available in-store at select Target locations, something Mowry initially put on her vision board back in 2008.

But her journey to taking control of her own health began way before then.

After experiencing debilitating abdominal pains that went improperly treated for years, she began to notice that other Black women had similar experiences with physicians. "I was on this long journey trying to figure out what was wrong with me and I just felt like my symptoms weren't being taken very seriously," she shares with me. "And the more I hear of these stories from women of color, it's crazy how I was not alone. I was passed from doctor to doctor."

It wasn't until 2006 when an African American doctor (who is also a Harvard graduate, might I add) performed surgery on Mowry and was able to diagnose her with endometriosis.

"As soon as I sat down in her office, and I didn't even have to be in her office for more than 20 minutes, she knew exactly what I had," the Family Reunion star says. "I remember feeling so relieved, like finally somebody's listening to me."

From there, she was able to work with her physician to develop a plan for healing.

While every woman's health journey is different, Mowry wants to encourage us all to take control of what we can control. Luckily, she's has a plethora of options to help get us there, especially with this latest drop.

Now, let me be clear. I'm someone who is very skeptical of supplements — to the point where I've skipped over them for years and just make sure to eat well. But, I can't lie, Anser is good.

I typically make a smoothie every day with a boatload of tropical fruit, sea moss, and oat milk. So the morning before my conversation with Mowry, I decided to add a scoop of the Heart Beets Super Food Powder into the mix. I was expecting for it it to taste powdery (as most powders do), and as soon as I saw that it had spirulina in there, I thought I was going to have to suffer through my drink.

However, let me tell you, once I took that first sip, I knew Mowry knew what she was doing.

It tasted like I had added another fruit to the blend — it was delicious. And if you think I've been adding it to my smoothies every morning since, then girl, you are absolutely correct.

"I wanted to make sure that I came out with a product that focused on heart health, number one," the former Sister Sister star shares. "Unfortunately for women in general, [especially] African American women, cardiovascular health is something that we really, really need to put a spotlight on. It's the number one cause of death for women. Then we have a high percentage of cardiovascular issues in our African American community."

I've also been taking the Women's Multivitamin, the Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies — which by the way, taste just like candy and it's very hard to stop at two (the recommended daily dose) — as well as the Restful Sleep capsules.

It's going to take a little while to see what difference the multivitamins and the Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies make to my body, so I can't speak on those just yet, but those Restful Sleep joints are the real deal.

I have been dealing with bad insomnia for weeks, so I took two about an hour before bed as soon as the Anser package arrived at my place. That night, I dosed off peacefully, got the best rest I've gotten in a while, and went through the day not yearning for a nap.

I took them again the following night just to make sure it wasn't a fluke and got the same blissful results.

When it comes to Mowry's daily lineup, she tells me that she starts off with Women's Multivitamin Gummies. "It has all of your essential vitamins," she explains. The formula contains vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D3, E, folate, zinc, and more. Then she will take two Hair, Skin & Nail Gummies, admitting that she, too, struggles to stop eating them.

At lunch, she takes the Digestive Comfort supplements, which Mowry says helps to get rid of gas and bloating after meals. Like many of us, the actress is also extra diligent when it comes to immunity these days, so she keeps the antioxidant-rich Elderberry Gummies and the Vitamin C Gummies on deck.

Once it's almost time for bed, she'll pop two of the Restful Sleep capsules before her nightly bath or shower, and be ready to dose off in about an hour.

"I work a lot, and a lot's on my mind, so sometimes it's hard for me to go to sleep," Mowry shares. "I'm a thinker, my mind just doesn't shut off. It's just very calming, so it's a nice zen kind of feeling as you start to drift off."

The actual supplements aside, I love that the brand's tagline is, "Self-care isn't selfish." I ask Mowry to expand on what exactly that means, especially for Black women like us who, from an ancestral standpoint, haven't always had the space to think about our own self-care and wellness.

"We have been taught to be in that state of mind of survival," says Mowry. "But not only have we been taught, we've been forced — let's be real. [However,] a part of survival, in my opinion, is taking care of yourself. A part of being your best, being equipped to tackle your circumstances, is filling up your own cup. It's important for you to look at yourself as valuable — you have to take care of yourself."

And thankfully, her line is a part of the Anser.

Anser is now available in retail at select Target locations. Other products are available online at target.com and shopanser.com.
