The 2022 Golden Globes will not be televised. NBC yanked them after all of the shenanigans with the 2021 nominations, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s history of racism and sexism. I don’t know if the HFPA could technically license the Globes telecast to a different TV station, but for now, this is the grand experiment which Hollywood is trying this awards season. The experiment is: no one will go to the Globes, which are still technically “happening,” and celebrities will instead go to the Critics’ Choice Awards. The CCAs have been televised for years, but the 2022 event will probably be the strongest showing. Anyway, this morning, the Globe nominations came out. You can see the full list here at Vanity Fair. [From Vanity Fair]
Three Black actors in the Best Actor Drama category. The HFPA really is trying to perform their allyship, I guess. I still need to watch CODA, but most of these nominations look like all of the predicative Oscar lists. I think Best Actress Drama is probably going to be the Oscars’ final five, give or take Nicole Kidman. I’m enjoying the nominations for The Power of the Dog, both Bendy and Kodi deserve lots of noms, although Kirsten Dunst really didn’t do much, honestly. Oh, I truly believe that Emma Stone deserves a million nominations for Cruella, and I would love to see that film shortlisted at the Oscars, as it was one of my favorite movies of the year.
