A look at Madonna’s intense schedule: How the singer, 64, exercises six days a week in ‘punishing’ regime as those close to her tell all on her demanding on-stage routine – after she is ‘rushed to the ICU’

Madonna has been forced to postpone her mammoth tour later this year after she was ‘rushed to hospital and intubated after being found unresponsive’ on Saturday.

The singer’s terrifying health scare was confirmed by her manager Guy Oseary, who told in an Instagram post how she had a ‘serious bacterial infection’ that required a days-long stay in the ICU.

The mother-of-six has now been forced to postpone her 84-date world tour, which was due to kick off in Vancouver, Canada, on July 15 due to her medical struggles.

Madonna throws everything into her music and is known for being a perfectionist when it comes to her performances, and this time was no different, as she was sparing no expense or effort on her 40th anniversary tour.

The Like A Prayer hitmaker started rehearsals for her mammoth tour back in April and has been busy on a demanding six-day working week gearing up for the shows, those close to the star have revealed.

Just three years ago, she was forced to cancel a string of shows after she suffered a nasty fall on stage and was left having to undergo surgery for a knee injury.

The dedicated performer is also well-known for her ‘punishing’ fitness regime, which sees her exercise six times a week with a personal trainer amid her demanding on-stage schedule to maintain her ‘dancer’s physique’.

For her scheduled 12th concert tour later this year, which has now been postponed, Madonna was set to jet all across the globe in a jam-packed 84-date epic.

She was due to perform across in the likes of North America, Europe and the United Kingdom for her hotly-anticipated 40th anniversary tour in a jam-packed schedule on the road.

While Madonna used to play tours featuring around 40 shows at the start of her career, she has upped her commitments in recent years and has performed upwards of 80 shows on her tours.

On her most recent Madame X tour, Madonna performed at an impressive 75 dates from September 2019 until March 2020 and put her ‘blood, sweat and tears’ into the performances.

Before that, in 2015, Madonna nailed a staggering 82 dates on her Rebel Heart Tour, while she hit a high of 88 shows on her 2012 The MDNA Tour.

Jose Extravaganza, a dancer who used to work with Madonna, gave an insight into her huge plans for her 2023-4 tour, telling how the star had been exercising ‘a lot’ and rehearsing six days a week in preparation.

He told Dailymail.com: ‘I think she’s exercising a lot. I mean, the rehearsals. Rehearsals are six days a week from what I hear, you know, like the only day off is Sunday.

‘I think she’s leaving in about two more weeks. So I know that it’s like, you know, high high energy right about now, you know, with with the rehearsals and the costumes and making sure that everything works.

‘You know, as far as the stage, I’m sure it’s going to be a beautiful set, you know, and I’m looking forward to it. Definitely. I think it’s gonna be good.’

He also revealed how Madonna had planned to incorporate her love of boxing and fitness into her concerts by bringing martial arts into her upcoming shows, showing how important fitness is in the star’s life.

He went on: ‘There’s a lot like dancing going on. I mean, I believe that dance troupe is large. When we went on tour, it was just seven of us. I think now there’s, there’s at least anywhere from 15 to 20 of them.

‘They are trained in different fields of dance different types of artistic expression to be to be shown in the show. I believe there’s gonna be like a lot of martial arts like boxing. She’s very into boxing and things like that.

‘So I think she’s going to revisit a lot of those things that she’s shown in the past. It’s definitely not to be missed. It’s gonna be all that is Madonna. You know, all those things that make her Madonna.’

Madonna, who is infamous for her perfectionism, was sparing no expense for her Celebration Tour as she was aware it could be her final big tour, an insider previously claimed.

Safety first! Madonna kicked off rehearsals for her upcoming planned tour in April, and was seen wearing protective knee pads while practicing , three years after her knee surgery

‘It may be her last tour, so she wants to make it perfect,’ an insider claimed earlier this year.

‘This is her labor of love,’ they added. ‘Her perfectionism is driving everyone up the wall but she does not care. The crew is working their a** off because everyone wants to make her happy.’

In terms of the visual aesthetics of the show, the insider told DailyMail.com that she had chose to work with a clean slate and had big plans for the shows.

‘She wanted younger dancers and she is using a fresh crew this time around,’ they explained. ‘Madonna likes creative people who can take direction. She is usually not one to take suggestions and knows what she wants.’

The star was previously forced to cancel 14 shows of her prior 75-date The Madame X Tour back in 2019-2020 after injuring herself on stage.

On February 27, 2020 – Madonna hurt her coccyx ‘when a chair was literally pulled out from underneath’ her onstage Le Grand Rex in Paris and she called herself ‘a broken doll held together with tape and glue’.

‘If only knees didn’t twist and cartilage didn’t tear and nothing hurt and tears never fell out of our eyes,’ she wrote on Instagram at the time.

‘But alas they do and thank god for this important reminder that we are human.’

Madonna was left on crutches for ten months following the injury and operation she underwent and other ‘physical challenges’, she told at the time.

As the Covid pandemic put the final nail in her tour’s coffin, Madonna decided to undergo knee surgery in April 2020 followed by hip surgery in November 2020 as well as ‘regenerative treatment for missing cartilage’.

As well as her perfectionism in her music career, Madonna is well-known for her very ‘punishing’ exercise regime to maintain her ripped physique.

Back in 2016, personal trainer Craig Smith opened up about Madonna’s fitness schedule and told what it was like to work with her.

Craig told how behind the scenes, the Queen of Pop is a woman of discipline, focus and unwavering work ethic.

Despite any travel commitments and demanding on-stage schedule, Madonna always makes the time to work out six days a week for a minimum of 30 minutes.

‘She does a combination of circuit training, interval training and resistance training. Dance is obviously a huge part of that,’ Craig told.

The trainer said he would vary the workouts to include bar training, yoga, martial arts and boxing to cover everything from core strength to flexibility.

He said Madonna would lift light weights, between just 2.2 and 1.1 kilograms (five and 2.5lbs), with 20 to 30 reps of each exercise to maintain her ‘dancer’s physique’.

A typical daily workout would include a warm up, often dance conditioning based, that elevates the body’s temperature and heart-rate.

The warm-up is followed by upper body work such as push-ups in reps of 20, planking for up to 80 seconds and core work.

To finish, Madonna will focus on the lower body, thighs and legs, some isolated core training, stretching and meditation, Craig claimed.

Madonna is also a fan of metabolic interval training, a method of exercise that helps with fat and weight loss.

He also gave an insight into her diet, telling how Madonna would eat six meals a day, three main courses and three lighter snacks, every two to four hours.

Her diet consists of cold pressed juices – her favourite is organic watermelon – organic protein bars, fruits, vegetables and grains like quinoa.

Madonna’s health scare saw her ‘rushed to hospital and intubated after being found unresponsive’ in New York on Saturday.

The scare was shared by her longtime manager Guy Oseary, who revealed on Instagram that Madonna has been forced to postpone her anniversary tour as a result of her medical struggles.

He insisted in his post that the singer is ‘expected to make a full recovery’ and that her ‘health is improving’, but added that she is ‘still under medical care’.

According to Page Six, Madonna was ‘discovered on Saturday’, when she was ‘taken to the ICU’ and ‘intubated overnight’.

The publication added that Madonna’s eldest daughter, Lourdes Leon, 26, remained by her side throughout her hospitalization.

Although her manager did not share the specifics of Madonna’s treatment, or the conditions of her hospitalization, he confirmed that she was taken to the ICU on Saturday and that she was diagnosed with a bacterial infection.

‘On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU,’ he wrote on Wednesday afternoon.

‘Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.’

He added: ‘At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour.’

The ‘life-threatening’ condition that de-railed Madonna’s tour: What are bacterial infections and what causes them?

It is not known exactly what kind of infection Madonna is suffering from, however bacterial infections can affect many different parts of the body, including the skin, lungs, brain, and blood, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

‘Common bacterial diseases include UTIs, food poisoning, STIs and some skin, sinus and ear infections,’ the medical body states, noting that the most common form of treatment is a course of antibiotics.

‘There are many bacterial infections that aren’t usually serious or can be treated easily with antibiotics,’ it explains. ‘However, any bacterial infection that gets deep into your body, like in your blood, heart, lungs or brain, can be life-threatening.’
