Laura Hamilton took to social media today to inform her fans that she’s had the COVID-19 jab. At 38-years-old, the television presenter got the call from the NHS to get her vaccination earlier than most her age as she has an underlying health condition.

The A Place In The Sun host has Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), an immune deficiency disease.

The mum-of-two was diagnosed with the condition after the birth of her daughter Tahlia, five.

The Channel 4 star is also mum son Rocco, seven, who she shares with her husband Alex Howard.

This morning she spoke to fans via Instagram after receiving her first vaccination and explained why she had been called up for the jab.

“I’m currently sat in my car. I’ve got to wait for 10 minutes because I’ve just had my first COVID-19 jab. The Oxford jab.

“And I have to sit here and wait 10 minutes before I can drive anywhere,” Laura explained.

“A few people have already asked me why I’ve had the jab because I’m not in my 50s.

“I’m not in my 40s, yet,” she continued, in view of her 122,000 followers.

“I got a message from the NHS because I have an underlying health condition.

“I do know a few of you on here are aware that I have something called ITP, which is where I have a low platelet account in my blood,” she said.

Explaining how the condition affected her, Laura went on to say: “It means I can bruise pretty badly and when Tahlia was just seven months old I had a really bad outburst of it and that’s how I became aware of ITP.

“It’s an autoimmune deficiency disease.”

“So that’s why I’m here and that is why I’ve had my first vaccination, so there you go.

“And it wasn’t all that bad at all,” she reassured fans.

Laura has spoken out about ITP on several occasions in the past in order to highlight the disease.

Last September, she showed fans how her body reacted to a tiny mosquito bite.

The mum-of-two shared a picture of her bruised arm on the picture-sharing site.

“This is what I have this morning after a little scratch of a mosquito bite!”

Raising awareness for the condition, she added the hashtags: “#itpawareness #itp #autoimmunedisease.”

Common symptoms of the condition can include excessive bruising and bleeding from the gums or nose.
