A Place In The Sun presenter Sara Damergi, 41, has addressed her absence from the popular property show after filming a new series of A Place In The Sun: Summer Sun last year. Speaking to Express.co.uk, the mother of two shared that she was excited to be back hosting the programme, while addressing her three-year absence from the show.

In 2018, Sara announced that she was taking a break from the show as part of her maternity leave.

The star welcomed son Oliver and decided to step away from her hosting duties.

But after her maternity break, Sara revealed that her plan to return to the property programme was thrown off course when she landed another presenting gig.

She said: “I was doing Coast vs Country and then I had kids.

“I was actually due to go back to A Place In The Sun, I think I was meant to do 10 shows or something like that, just before Coast vs Country got commissioned and then that got commissioned and I couldn’t do A Place In The Sun,” she candidly revealed.

Addressing the space between her APITS presenting roles, Sara said that she needed a break from travelling.

She explained: “That was the only reason why I took a short break, just because I’d been on the road an epic amount because I was doing Summer Sun and Winter Sun.

“I had been on the road a lot so I needed a quick break and then I was due to go back but then Coast vs Country started, so that was the only reason.”

The star added that growing up she had always wanted to present the property programme, and gushed over having finally landed her dream job.

“I’ve always loved A Place In The Sun, I used to watch it after sixth form, saying, ‘I want to do that job!’, so I was lucky to nab it.”

In an Instagram post last year, the property expert revealed that she was rejoining the APITS team, 10 years after presenting her first show.

Alongside a smiley selfie, she wrote: “Big smiles at news just in!

“I’m rejoining the @theplaceinthesunofficial team! Wow it’s a decade since I first set off on a flight for this fab show!

“This time I’m going with some extra luggage in the shape of two tiny humans, a Swede, a c-section paunch, and everything bar the kitchen sink.

“But SO excited to start dream making once again!” she enthused.

“A huge thank you to @aplaceinthesunofficial and @channel4 for being so supportive to a breastfeeding mum.

Extremely grateful to be able to bring along the family,” she ended her post.

Sara also told how she travelled to Italy to start filming for the property show last summer, revealing that she took her whole family with her.

She explained: “I was still breastfeeding my youngest, I hadn’t been on the road with the kids before, so that was a new experience, especially during Covid.

“But then it was amazing to be away as it was the first time we’d been away since lockdown, as we were filming for work,” she finished.

A Place In The Sun is on weekdays on Channel 4 at 4pm.
