We’re more than halfway through Marvel’s Loki series, and the twists and cameos are only increasing. After Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie (Sophia di Martino) are taken off of Lamentis, Mobius traps Loki in a memory prison replaying his interaction with a familiar face.
Loki finds himself back in Asgard, when suddenly a woman appears, holding a cut lock of her hair. She glares at Loki and calls him “pathetic” before landing a kick and a punch and walking away. No matter what Loki does, the scene plays again and again until he finally breaks down. Although it’s been a while since we’ve heard the name “Sif,” the Asgardian warrior is both a reminder of the past and a teaser for what’s to come within the MCU.
Who is Sif in the MCU?
Fans fans met Sif, childhood friend to Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in the original Thor back in 2011, where she appeared mostly with Thor, Loki, and the Warriors Three. She showed up again in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, aiding Thor in the battle against the movie’s antagonist, Malekith. We don’t know how canon it is anymore, but Sif also appeared in two episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Sif also serves as a romantic rival to Dr. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), as both hold affection for Thor. In a mid-credits scene, Sif and the warrior Volstagg (Ray Stevenson) bring the Tesseract to the Collector and comment on Infinity Stones in a teaser for the apocalyptic events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Who Plays Sif?
Sif is played by Jaimie Alexander, who’s been absent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe while starring in NBC’s Blindspot. The show ended in 2020, so it looks like Alexander had time to drop in for a short cameo. But it won’t be the last fans see of her.
Alexander will reprise her role as Lady Sif in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, set to come out in 2022. She’ll join director Taika Waititi (who also voices and motion captures the character Korg), along with Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, and others in the first Thor film since Endgame. No word yet if Alexander will beat up Loki then too.
As for the Loki series, Alexander isn’t the only cameo in the show’s Episode 4. There was also a post-credit scene revealing where Loki ended up after getting pruned by the increasingly-sinister Ravonna Renslayer, and there we finally met characters played by Richard E. Grant and others. The penultimate episode looks to be a good one.
