Anne Hathaway opens up on her baby plans: I could see us trying for another one

Prior to welcoming her first child six years ago, Hollywood A-lister Anne Hathaway was battling the daunting prospect of not being able to conceive a baby.

The Oscar-winning actress – most notably known for her critically acclaimed roles in Les Miserables and Rachel Getting Married – even said it was becoming increasing hard to see people successfully get pregnant, while she and jewellery designer husband Adam Shulman seemingly could not.

Despite their complications however, she was overjoyed to welcome first son Jonathan in 2016, with his little brother Jack being born just three years later in 2019.

And looking back on her journey through motherhood – during which she admits encountering several unexpected struggles and predicaments – Anne tells OK!: "I could see us going for another one."

Sharing a snap of her blossoming baby bump with her now 25.8 million Instagram followers back in 2016, Anne opened up about her conception "hell".

"For everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love.

"It’s not for a movie," she clarified about her upcoming addition.

The years that followed have witnessed the star speaking candidly about her pregnancy journey in several interviews.

Talking to the Daily Mail back in 2019, the now-40-year-old star opened up: "What made matters worse was that I was embarrassed to feel like that because there was no conversation to be had about it.

"So, when I was writing that post, I was thinking about that one follower I might reach, the woman who’s in hell about this and can’t figure out why it’s not happening for her.

"She’s going to see my announcement and, while I understand she will be happy for me, I also know that something about it will make her feel worse. I just wanted to say: ‘Look, this wasn’t as easy for me as it looks.’"

Since welcoming her mini miracles however, Anne tends to keep her sons out of the public eye, but that hasn’t prevented her from sometimes opening up about how Jonathan and Jack have changed her life.

When we ask at the 75th Cannes International Film Festival if anything often plays on her mind surrounding her parenting style, Anne says that she often asks herself, "Am I the sort of person I’m encouraging my children to be? And if I’m not, am I doing my best to change it?"

She tells us, "I’m trying to teach them by example. And then if they ask questions, I try to be honest with them and put it in terms they understand.

"This is with the goal of one day having a very frank conversation with them, because at that point, I hope they are the sort of person who, from within the joy of their own life, are able to understand serious matters as well."

It’s fair to say that the A-lister takes her role as a mother very seriously. She even admitted three years ago that she had given up alcohol because she wanted to be a more present parent.

She said in 2019, "I’m going to stop drinking while my son is in my house just because I don’t totally love the way I do it and he’s getting to an age where he really does need me all the time in the mornings."
