Britain's Got Talent has reportedly been scrapped until the autumn.

The popular talent show has reportedly been halted as the third national lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic has meant that nationwide auditions cannot take place.

Show bosses are said to be hopeful that the show will return later this year.

A source told The Mirror: "Safety has to be our priority and it’s simply not feasible or sensible to ask members of the public to travel in order to audition at this time.

"While we’d love to make the series and bring some much-needed cheer to the nation in the coming months, it’s just not going to be possible."

Auditions for the show usually take place in spring, with episodes airing in April.

An ITV spokesperson confirmed the news in a statement reading: "The filming for the 15th series of Britain’s Got Talent has been postponed from its proposed record dates in late January.

"With the announcement of the latest Government health guidelines and with our priority of safeguarding the well-being of everyone involved in our programmes we, together with the production teams at Thames and Syco, have taken the decision to move the record and broadcast of the forthcoming series.

"We will confirm revised dates in due course."
