Gardeners’ World host Carol Klein, 75, is married to her husband Neil Klein, 67, and often films various outdoor segments at the couple’s Devon home. The gardening expert is best known for all things to do with horticulture.

The small-screen star, who also fronts the Channel 5 show Gardening with Carol Klein, opened up about an authentic present she received from her other half as she touched on retirement.

The presenter revealed that her partner gifted her a gypsy caravan on her 65th birthday.

The unusual landmark and meticulously painted caravan is located at the bottom of her garden and acts as both a shelter for visitors and an outdoor feature.

Writing in a column for the Mirror, Carol penned:” For a very special birthday three years ago I was treated to the loveliest present imaginable. Which birthday?

“Put it this way – if I was a man I could have retired.”

She added: “And if I had retired, the next birthday present would have been a piebald pony to pull the gypsy caravan that my husband, Neil, bought me.”

While the Gardeners’ World has no plans to slow down, the presenter touched on the benefits of having a remarkable garden feature.

Speaking about her gift, Carol wrote: “It’s utterly beautiful, totally authentic and meticulously painted by Laurel Thompson – a famous caravan painter.

“It has been sitting at the bottom of the garden now for almost three years. So far I haven’t taken off in it. It has become a landmark.”

She added: “Structures like this make an enormous difference to the garden.”

Gardening with Carol is filmed at her home in Glebe Cottage where has resided for 30 years with her husband.

The couple moved into Glebe Cottage in 1978 and they share two grown-up daughters, Annie, 40, and Alice, 38.
