Catherine Tyldesley on realities of filming Viewpoint sex scenes during Covid as she admits ‘I lived off lettuce’

Catherine Tyldesley has shared the unromantic reality of filming steamy sex scenes under Covid restrictions – including kissing with masks on and a long-awaited leg shave.

The former Coronation Street star features in new ITV police drama Viewpoint, where she plays a school mum in an intense marriage, and opened up on the details of some of her more intimate scenes.

Viewpoint was filmed under coronavirus restrictions and on Tuesday's This Morning, host Phillip Schofield asked her about the experience.

He said: "You shot a number of quite steamy sex scenes and they only put one in."

Catherine replied: "I spent two weeks living off lettuce, Phillip, and then I watched it back and I was like, 'Oh, that's it'.

"That was unusual because we wouldn't take our masks off until the take, so kissing with our masks on was all kinds of weird."

She added that getting back to work had meant sorting out some long-neglected personal grooming tasks.

Catherine said: "I went to shave my legs that morning and my husband went, 'I've not seen shaved legs since week one Cath, this is wonderful.'"

The 37 year old also shared the tough year her family had been through, where her mum was hospitalised and her grandfather died.

She said: "At one point my mum was in intensive care and my grandad unfortunately was in the ward below dying."

She added: "There were a couple of very dark weeks for me when my grandad was passing and my mum was poorly and we couldn't get to her, it was beyond stressful."

Joking about the experience of homeschooling her six year old son Alfie, Catherine said: "I mean don't get me wrong, he now knows the entire vocal score to Les Miserables and Annie, but his maths is terrible.

"I was in the lowest set for maths, I'm not going to lie. They just used to give me origami."
