David and Victoria Beckham put on united front in matching outfits after Qatar backlash

The Beckhams have continued to put on a united front following intense backlash to the World Cup host country and David's role as one of the biggest name ambassadors in the tournament, for a rumoured £10 million fee.

The former England Captain was snapped beaming as he watched the match between host country Qatar and Senegal.

However he as since flown home from the football tournament, missing England's match against Wales, in order to attend Victoria's Christmas party.

Back in England he hosted a private viewing for a select group of friends and family members to watch the game, but it was not quite as up close as sitting in the Qatari stadium.

Following the football, David and Victoria headed to her Dover Street store in Mayfair for the Christmas party, and later left the bash sporting matching all black ensembles.

Victoria, perhaps unsurprisingly, opted to wear her own fashion brand, donning a stylish crocheted top and fringed skirt. She paired this ensemble with some black open-toe heels, oversized sunglasses and a fringed bag.

David wore a black jumper with oversized trousers and brown shoes, also sporting a pair of sunglasses.

Holding hands as they departed the event neither the former Spice Girl or sportsman cracked a smile for the cameras.

The former footballer has recently faced widespread backlash after accepted a contract with Qatar tourism to promote the country ahead of the World Cup, despite numerous concerns about the country’s criminalisation of homosexuality and its human rights violations.

Comedian Joe Lycett even said he would shred £10,000 if David didn't back out of the agreement and appeared to do just this in a clip posted on Twitter that saw Joe dressed in a rainbow outfit approaching a shredder and throwing the money in.

Joe later revealed that he didn't actually shred £10k following the ultimatum, posting a second clip in which he revealed the money had been donated to charity.

Singer Will Young has also criticised David over his ties to Qatar, taking to Instagram to call him out for not speaking out against host country Qatar, writing:

"Here is what irks me the most – not a WHISPER from yourself David to show solidarity, not a WHISPER from yourself to show support for the practical massacre of migrant workers, not a WHISPER David to help LGBTQIA+ communities living under constant danger."

Bake-Off champ and Strictly Come Dancing runner up John Whaite has also been critical of the footballer, saying: “I think it’s disgusting…cheapening himself. Millions, if not billions of eyes are on him, and he’s making the wrong step right now."
