David Beckham has very odd cleaning obsession and says Victoria doesn’t appreciate it

David Beckham has opened up about his cleaning obsession, sharing his "pet hate" and what his wife Victoria thinks of his habits.

The ex-footballer, 47, is set to star in a new multi-part Netflix documentary series, which promises to "go beyond the shine of stardom" and give fans a glimpse into the life of the Beckhams.

In a teaser clip for the upcoming series, which was shown by Netflix at a London media event, a peek into David's home life with Victoria, 48, could be seen, with the pair joking about together.

Dad-of-four David spoke about his habit of ensuring all of the candles in their house are clean, and admitted he doesn't think his cleaning is "appreciated" by his wife.

The former footballer, who has previously spoken out about being diagnosed with OCD, said: “It’s tiring going round every single candle cleaning it, clipping the wick. I clip the candle wicks. I clean the glass. That’s my pet hate, the smoke around the inside of the candle. I know it’s weird.”

Director of the series, Fisher Stevens, could be heard telling David the kitchen looks clean, with him then explaining he'd stayed up late cleaning it after cooking dinner.

Gazing over at fashion designer Victoria, David added: “I’m not sure it’s appreciated so much by my wife in all honesty.”

However, the mum-of-four responded by sweetly telling her husband he is "perfect", to which he joked: “Why does it sound so sarcastic when she says that?”

David has previously spoken about his cleaning habits and how he likes to have everything a certain way. In a TV interview back in 2006, the star said: "I've got this obsessive compulsive disorder where I have to have everything in a straight line or everything has to be in pairs.

"I'll go into a hotel room and before I can relax, I have to move all the leaflets and all the books and put them in a drawer. Everything has to be perfect."

Netflix's new project with David Beckham will explore his upbringing in East London, along with the "drive and determination that led him to become one of the most recognisable and scrutinised athletes of all time".

The show promises interviews with family, friends and football figures who have all been part of David's life, and will likely feature his and Victoria's four children – Brooklyn, 24, Romeo, 20, Cruz, 18 and Harper, 11.
