Eamonn Holmes returns to TV for first time since Phillip Schofield quits This Morning

Eamonn Holmes has returned to TV screens for the first time since Phillip Schofield quit This Morning.

The GB News Presenter, who previously presented the ITV show alongside his wife Ruth Langsford, appeared on tonight's episode of The Chase Celebrity Special alongside actor Danny John-Jones, radio presenter Yinka Bokinni and Olympian Tom Bosworth.

The special was, as always, hosted by Bradley Walsh – who is one of the frontrunners to replace Phillip on the daytime programme.

Filmed previous to Phillip's shocking departure from the show, Eamonn managed to rack up an impressive £6,000 in the cash builder. He took Jenny Ryan's offer of £143,000 but failed to rejoin his team for the final chase.

Eamonn originally left This Morning two years ago as him and Ruth were replaced by Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond. Now, the broadcaster fronts the breakfast show for GB News.

On Saturday, Phillip sensationally quit his job after 21 years of fronting the show, amidst reports of a "feud" with his co-host and best friend Holly Willoughby.

In a statement, Phillip said: “I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.

“Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

“So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month.”

In light of the news, Eamonn spoke out for the first time, breaking his silence on Twitter by saying the day is "a good day".

Sharing on his social media, Eamonn uploaded a snap of his granddaughter Emilia kissing his cheek as he told his followers: "Pappa got a smacker. Thank u Emilia. All in all that rounded off what turned out to be a good day".

Fans thought he must be talking about Phillip leaving the show, with one commenting: "Oh I love the subtle shade", another adding: "There's a new job with your name on it!"
