EXC: Zara Larsson claims music industry bosses 'touched her funny'

EXCLUSIVE: Zara Larsson claims music industry bosses ‘touched her funny’ when she found fame at a young age

Popstar Zara Larsson has revealed music industry bosses ‘touched her funny’ and ‘abused their power’ over her when she made her bid for stardom at a young age.

The Swedish singer, who found fame when she was just 10, says that the behaviour made her decide to never work in a room with just men again.

In an admission that will put more pressure on the industry following a number of #MeToo complaints in recent years, Ms Larsson said: ‘At the beginning, sometimes it would just feel really uncomfortable.

‘Being very young I think people abused their power a lot, made really inappropriate suggestions or they touch you funny, or they say stuff where you’re like, “Why did you say that?”

Ms Larsson made her confession in an interview with comedian Leigh Francis, which will be aired on his television show, Shopping With Keith Lemon on Wednesday night.

Asked if it was ever difficult being a young lady in the music industry, the singer replied: ‘Yes, it definitely can be. There have, for sure, been some moments where I’m like, “What’s going on?”

‘Nowadays, I don’t want to work with just guys in the room. At the beginning I was just going along with it.

‘Nowadays, I’m just like, at least have one other girl in the room. I would love to make an album with just girls.’

Ms Larsson, now 25, began her music career at the age of 10 after winning Sweden’s version of Britain’s Got Talent and later reached international fame after releasing her first song at 15.

The Ruin Your Life singer signed with the record label TEN Music Group in 2012 when she was 14 and released her first single, Uncover, which became a six-time Platinum single in Sweden.

A year later she signed with Epic Records in the US and went on to reach global recognition in 2021 with her third studio album, Poster Girl, reaching the top ten charts in Sweden, Ireland and the UK.

But last year, Ms Larsson announced she was taking back control of her entire music catalogue from TEN to start her record label, Sommer House, which would deal with her forthcoming releases.

The star, who will release her fourth studio album later this year, revealed in 2021 she recorded tracks with stars like Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande but had to scrap them.

She said her collaboration with Ariana, 29, was to be a tune about anxiety but the ‘gang vocal’ meant you couldn’t hear them.

Ms Larsson has been in a relationship with 29-year-old dancer Lamin Holmen, who featured in her music video Talk About Love, since 2020.
