Gogglebox couple Giles Wood and Mary Killen returned to UK screens this week as they sat down to talk about some of the nation's best shows.
Having first joined the hit Channel 4 show in 2015, Giles and Mary quickly one the hearts of the British public with their witty personality and scalding hot takes.
Despite appearing on TV for nearly eight years, Giles and Mary keep a famously private life and little is known about their lives once those cameras turn off.
The couple met when a 21 year old Giles was studying at Wimbledon Art School, where his future wife was modelling.
Soon after, Giles retired at the ripe age of 21.
During a 2020 show which saw the couple watch a documentary on coronavirus, he explained: “Just as I'm starting to enjoy my retirement.”
Mary replied: “What retirement? You haven't worked first. You retired at 21, so now you can start working – do it in reverse.”
When Giles isn’t reviewing the best of British TV, he works as an artist and runs his own website where he talks about his influences and sells his artwork through the store.
On his website, Giles explains: “I like the contemplative aspect — sitting for several days in a room, watching the light change.
“There are as many changes as with a landscape. I always work in oils as they give more depth. The finished painting should offer an insight into the painter as well as the subject.”
His website showcases a range of art pieces with subjects ranging from dogs to rolling hills, with some selling for over £800.
Giles also contributes to a magazine called The Oldie, where he writes on subjects ranging from his personal life to the conservation of animals.
While her partner in crime is painting or writing, Mary works as an author and has written a number of novels, including 2012’s How the Queen Can Make You Happy.
Mary also works as The Spectator’s Agony Aunt, known as Dear Mary, where she offers advice to Brits in sticky situations.
In the most recent piece, published earlier this week, Mary helped a person who questioned: “Is it OK for guests to steal pears at Glyndebourne?”
