Golden Globes: Tracy Morgan gives hilarious reason why he mispronounced Soul

Saturday Night Live star Tracy Morgan was left red-faced live on air at the Golden Globes after accidentally mispronouncing the title of Disney movie Soul.

He had been on stage to present the winner in the category for best original score, but caused a bit of confusion when he announced Soul had won – mainly because he pronounced the movie ‘Sal’.

Opening up the winning envelope, Morgan looked confident as he declared ‘Sal’ the winner, but he even baffled himself and was caught looking down at the paper and laughing to himself as he realised his mistake.

Naturally, the awkward moment led to a slew of memes and people poking fun on Twitter, but Morgan made sure to own his mistake like a champ.

Turns out he had quite the excuse, as he told his 2.9million followers he had pizza on the brain.

Morgan tweeted: ‘Sorry SOUL. I was thinking about the pizza I was going to get from my guy SAL on the way home!!’

Fans were seen calling for Morgan to introduce Soul at the Oscars later this year, with many finding the mispronunciation pretty funny.

‘Tracy Morgan mispronouncing SOUL has caused mine to leave my body. I am now a cat,’ tweeted one fan.

‘The joy I just felt as Tracy Morgan mispronouncing Soul has just added five years onto my life,’ joked another.

One more teased: ‘Tracy Morgan mispronouncing Soul will live in my head rent free for quite some time.’

Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman received a posthumous best actor award for drama motion picture for his role in Netlflix film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
