Heartbroken Annabel Croft arrives at Wimbledon following husband’s shock death

Tennis star Annabel Croft stepped out in public for the first time since her husband Mel Coleman's unexpected death in May.

The sporting-pro-turned-pundit, 56, was seen attending the second day of the Wimbledon Tennis Championship, where she is set to make appearances on a string of BBC shows to comment on the matches.

Returning to the All England Club, which had brought her much joy and success throughout her tennis career, Annabel smiled for photos as she donned a pink denim jumpsuit and green cardigan.

She carried her belongings in a large navy blue bag, and could be seen still sporting her wedding ring. She accesorised further with a silver necklace around her neck.

Annabel's return to the public eye comes after the devastating loss of her husband of 30 years, Mel, who passed away aged 60 after a "shock" battle with cancer. The couple have three adult children together, Charlie, Amber and Lily.

The former America’s Cup yachtsman, who co-ran a tennis school with Annabel, was diagnosed with stage three cancer after complaining of sudden stomach problems, reports the Mirror.

Annabel later shared the tragic news of his passing, in a statement which read: "My beloved husband Mel passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning after a short battle with cancer.

"My family and I are completely heartbroken and ask for privacy at this very sad time."

At the time a friend told the Daily Mail: "This has come as an extreme shock to everyone – the diagnosis was out of the blue and Mel did not seem unwell at the time. Sadly the cancer progressed brutally..

"Everyone is devastated and horrified, and Annabel is absolutely shattered. The two of them have been together forever and were a wonderful couple."

Earlier this year, has opened up about her and Mel's chance meeting with the Mail. She said: "I got a text from my mother saying the BBC production office in Belfast were asking whether I'd be interested in filming a programme about yacht racing.

"I'd never been on a yacht before, but it ended up with me, Eamonn Holmes and Peter Skellern going off to Guernsey to shoot a programme where we learnt how to race a yacht.

"Mel, who had just got back from Australia after the America's Cup, was one of the yachtsmen and that is how we met."
