Julia Bradbury, 50, was left horrified by nasty remarks left on a recent bikini selfie posted onto Instagram. The former Countryfile host received abuse from some of her followers, with a few particularly nasty individuals remarking it appeared she had come out of a chemotherapy session.

It makes you feel very sad

Speaking on the trolling she received, Julia explained: “One of the comments said, ‘She looks like she’s come out of a chemotherapy session’. That was the thing that surprised me — the vitriol.

“They asked, ‘Have you had chemotherapy?’ Absolutely not. I do not have cancer.

“Initially it just makes you feel very sad.

“Then online, very quickly, that skinny shaming became just nastiness which rolls into lots of very personal comments which have nothing to do with the original post.”

Julia is adamant that the trolls won’t wear her down and has vowed to continue to share her body-positive posts on social media.

She said: “But positive body image for women over 50 is so important, so I will carry on doing what I’m doing.

“I’m not going to stop for the haters,” she added to The Sun.

It comes after the star was accused by trolls of being too skinny when two weeks ago she shared a bikini snap.

Julia said the body-shaming does not necessarily hurt her own feelings, however, she worries what effect unregulated comments will have on her children and the younger generation.

Talking about the remarks she has received, the mum-of-three said: “I wasn’t personally mortified by it.

“I just think it is sad people go down that route.

“On social media, you have to be very careful with your words because people do get hurt, do get mortified and there are some serious eating disorders out there.

“I have friends whose daughters have anorexia and it is awful, and I have friends who were bulimic and these are horrible diseases.

“I think if I wasn’t of a sturdy mindset those kind of comments could be deeply upsetting,” she told The Mirror.

Julia went on to say that she feels confident in herself as she often shares photos and videos of her gruelling workouts.

The star wowed her followers by showcasing her impressive stomach muscles as she tensed for a workout selfie on Instagram shortly after receiving backlash over her weight.

The former Countryfile host explained she has a healthy BMI for her age and height.

She typed: “For those of you genuinely concerned I’m 5ft 9 inches tall (1.75mtrs) & weigh 9 stone 6 lbs.

“According to the NHS BMI indicator my BMI measurement is 19.5. The healthy weight range for my height is between 8st 13lb and 12st 1lb.

“So I’m a healthy weight and, ‘I should keep up the good work!’ According to the website.”
